I lost my job as you know, fair enough thats life.

I've been given a leavers date its 8th of november, and i've been asked to train the next bloke

WTF

they are getting rid of me because i can't fulfill the job properly
but want me to train the next guy???

Now frankly this is insulting. And i most certainly do not want to train this next guy, but they said they will give me a reference for my next job and i don't want to risk losing the chance of that reference by basically saying I'm not going to train whoever it is.

Question is...what do I do?

Do I bite the bullet and train the guy thats replacing me?

Or stand my ground and have a quiet word with my Manager and tell him I don't feel comfitable doing it

Thanks All

Do they not mean 'train' him, as in show him what you were doing so he can carry on where you left off with minimal problems?

I don't understand this bit. Have they told you specifically why you're not up to the job?

well they want me to train him for a week. how to do my job and that.

I feel bitter reading that and I'd be inclined to do it but not push yourself and do the bare minimum in training him, the problem with that attitude is its wrong plus its unfair to take it out on the new guy.

However if hes the bosses son, don't bother.

I was told they are getting rif of me because this next person has qualifications and I don't, which is irevelent if i can do the job and i get good reviews from everyone

Not knowign what you do, sorry disnt read the other thread, A few days handover i guess would be acceptable althought slighlty annoyign to you.

To actually train the guy up fully?? Tell them to shove their reference so far up their ass that they choke on it.

tell your manager that as you are, in thier eyes, unable to do the job, then you are unable to train your replacement by default.

Furthermore, you feel that their request is insulting.

none of this "uncomfortable" rubbish. tell em the truth but keep it polite and professional.

you owe them nothing.

Its called handover. They probably want to make sure that this new guy can do what you do once you're gone. Do enough to hand your job over, i.e. enough to get the reference. Nothing more!

Or just do a bit under what is required, so once you leave they realise how much they needed you!

In a perfect world, but I'm sure that the HR department would disagree unfortunately

You could spend the week officiously lecturing him if it makes you feel good inside

If they are replacing you because you cannot fullfill the job, how can they justify you training the next guy ? surely you would not be able to train him properly if you could not do the job ???

I would be very insulted!

However, if you dont do the job to the standard they want, what little you do know or do not know, would still be a help to the new guy, and you cant complain if you are not good enough for the job.

surely if you're capable of doing your job and they're getting rid of you anyway you can go to the union? surely that's unfair dismissal?

But are you currently doing the job as required? Surely they can't just hire you, then sack you when they find someone better. If you are so under qualified then surely they wouldn't have taken you on in the first place.

WHAT?

they are sacking you because they have found someone with better qualifications than you? even though you can do the job fine, and get good appraisals etc?

thats illegal matey. go to the citizens advice beureau NOW and discuss it.

i think you cant be made redundant if the position still needs to be filled, and they cant sack you if you havn't broken company guidelines.

if it only takes a week to train him up, then the job cant take that much in the way of qualifications, surely?
