Am I the only one who has lost all enjoyment from games?

I'm kinda feeling the same way these days. I joined a clan about a year ago - via my then-boss at work, which made things kinda amusing during lunch breaks - which has given me a taste for Battlefield 3, but I'm really struggling to get in to pretty much anything else. The last few days I've taken a crack at Minecraft and am enjoying it, but not sure how long for yet.

I used to feel the same way as the OP when i was playing WoW for 5 years with a tight group of online friends. I think it was the social and competitive side of multiplayer gaming that made single player games dull and boring. I pretty much didn't play anything else in that time frame.

I haven't played WoW for almost 2 years now and i am enjoying single player games again. I must admit though there are some pretty boring AAA games out there, but i guess that comes down to personal opinion.

Multiplayer games like LoL, SC2 etc requires to much time commitment for my liking, which is one of the reasons why i stopped playing WoW.

play something new?

No. Play something old.

I have recently totally given up on modern games. I've gone back to Quake 1 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein and am having the time of my life.

My suggestion to you is to go and play any classics from 10+ years ago you might have missed.

Interesting, I quit wow due to real life commitments, but instead I just buy tons and tons of games that I don't play (ok so ftl, hotline miami , far cry 3 and now orchard must die 2 all where actually good). Nothing replaces a game with a dedicated team (chasing world ranks in wow for me) . But hell least indie games are cheap.

I enjoy SC2 and BO2 most of the time.

I've lost enjoyment from all single player games unfortunately.

Also can't find enjoyment in MMOs like WoW or GW2 anymore.

I go through phases where I can't be bothered but at the moment I'm loving my gaming. I'm having a dry January so I'll be doing loads of gaming instead of going to the pub! :D

Currently playing Half Life 2, Metro 2033, KSP and Mass Effect, loving them all! :D

The main thing for me has been a significant drop in a sense of 'community'... ironically as gaming has become more and more mainstream and more and more popular, the actual sense of a cohesive 'community' has died off. Whether it was regular servers and clan-scenes in the 1.3-1.6 Steam games, or CoD1/CoD2, or whether it was the fact that everyone at some point used things like Xfire for much more than just simple chatting... it feels like the PC gaming crowd has been dispersed over many titles and many platforms. Game design reflects this, too: less and less focus on teamwork and supporting clan/league scenes, more and more focus on lone-wolf play and heaping on the achievements. Most of all this is what has killed off all the 'giant' MMO games for me, WoW being the most instructive example: from server-based communities and guildscenes to a total solitary experience, even though the game is more popular and more widely played than ever. It's a shame.

I basically think it's because PC gaming came out of the hobbyist/enthusiast closet, moving from quite a specialist and quite nerdy (not to mention expensive) activity into a more mainstream pastime. 5-10 years ago every PC game had a real hardcore core of players that would sustain it, even if the game itself had faults or bugs; small things such as design imperfections barely even mattered! Nowadays we have highly-polished games that are graphically stunning, but every single time it fails to generate a 'buzz' in the social sense.

I know there's the whole LoL/DotA2 thing, with the whole tacked-on streaming phenomenon... but something about those communities and that 'style' of game just doesn't do it for me. It's not friendly, and the whole culture of watching YouTube videos and 2 hour long streams is completely alien to me. Everyone is lured into a sense of 'participating' in the 'scene', when really all they're doing is sat back being passive backbenchers. Bring back the banter of a Day of Defeat 1.3 server!

I agree actually. In this day and age I find it hard to make new friends in gaming, possibly because most games don't hold my attention for long? I can't say really but I remember back when I was a kid and around 14-16 I used to play SoF on dial up and i used to play on the same servers and knew quiet a lot of people but found the game just amazing and the limited time I was allowed to play probably made me treasure it more :p then CoD2 was pretty much the same but I was on broadband and in general the community was immense, only used to play rifle only and it was just insanely fun with banter in the chat also.

Something about multiplayer games today just lack the community aspect like you say and all these unlockables just make everything boring to me, what happened to weapon and health pickups?

If only you could pay to go back in time, I would easily take 56k and SoF over broadband and generic cod clone fps 3001 anyday

These days I just feel as if I'm forcing myself to play through games. I honestly can't remember that last game I played that I actually enjoyed. When I was younger I remember that I used to feel more immersed in games. Now I just feel nothing.

Game developers these days, in my eyes are more concerned about graphics and what not, than actual gameplay.

I do play league of legends which I guess I enjoy.. Mainly due to the social aspect of it. But single player games is another story.

Anyone else feel like this? :S It's quite sad really.

Tastes definitely change over time, and we are all prone to having phases when things lack the allure they once held for us. Like anything else, sometimes it is good to get away from gaming for a bit - when you come back to it you remember what you love about it in the first place.

On the other hand, maybe you need to switch genres or try something different, as main-stream games are quite similar and sequel-prone.

Used to own an Xbox, and the multiplayer was the only real good thing about it in my opinion.

Now thought I buy all sorts of games from Steam and yet I only ever seem to play EVE Online.

I'm loving gaming even more, I have also funded some Kickstarter projects that I'm hoping come through soon... they are really exciting me :D

I feel like this sometimes. I'll be playing through a game and I'll feel like I'm forcing myself to hurry up and get it finished, even if I think it's quite good.

Been trying to get away from my usual FPS games and try something new though.

I've never been one for online play. (cba with all the bull) I just want to pick a game up and play.
I didn't really play for about a year. Then I by chance picked up FO3 on xbox (think someonewas sselling it here and offered a discount for 3 games or something) It sat on my shelf for months. (I didn't really know what it was, just thought it was a normal fps) My gf started playing it and said I'd probably like it.

Played 100 hours in a couple of months and still love it. Want it on pc now, also pickedup portal series which are fun but easy . Need to try civ 5 too. (all about the single player) you certainly get your money's worth with rpg and turn based games. I have fallen back into it.

I now mainly play on HTPC with a controller, steam big picture, sofa.. Again for me games are fun not competitive. (I will break the main rig out for civ, i don't think it agrees with pladma Tvs and game pads lol)

I'm much more choosy these days, probably because of other RL stuff (family, work, etc), so my gaming time is limited. As such I want to play something I really enjoy.

Back when I was at school/uni I would burn through games and play any old dross :D

I think as you get older, your imagination tails off compared to when you were younger.

To that degree you will always feel like the games were better when you were younger and all the sequels or new games these days dont compare.

The emphasis on visuals has diluted the effort put into story and gameplay which also doesnt help.

I think especially when your into your 30's and approaching your 40's you've played so many games and seen so many films that the novelty of new stories/games just dont have that shine anymore.

At the moment I spend the majority of my gaming time on LoL or Marvel Avengers Alliance (facebook game, ha!).

Dabbled with Farcry 3 for a bit, and need to get The Witcher 2 installed.

The problem I have is getting a large enough slot of free time to get properly sucked in to a story-driven game, it's really tricky with a gf and cat.

Entire evenings of gaming were easy to have when single. :p
