I really got into it last year and got a mage to lv 80. but after that raids became gearscore hunts and found myself unable to get into many raids....
In the end i ended up logging on and running about doing nothing , infact i would go back to starting lvs and end up helping newbies out with there quests.....
Has WOW changed any since then or are the annoying gear score counts etc still going on ?

I havent seen mention of GS since cata came out. Im sure its still in existence on pug raids for trash clears but they seem to have a hard enough job getting people anyway. theres a lot more guild side stuff going on now that the achievements are all linked in which pretty much has you either in the 'can raid' or 'cant raid' category. The Blizz built in GS will actually tell you when you are geared up for raids now, as with heroics.

That being said, you would still have to gear up. It just seems much easier nowadays, being more about ilevel and knowing the run. Get into a good guild (not hard, although in the ocuk guild there is competition for raid spots i understand) and you should be raiding in no time - once youve hit 85, geared up to pre-raid gear through heroics obviously.

Ive got the gear currently, but not the time. Wasnt a terribly hard process.

Gearscore has thankfully completely died out on most if not all realms. This is partly because the author's ego grew so massive he thought he could charge for the addon and thus completely killed it off, and also partly because you can see your average item level on the character pane. Most groups ask for this instead, but it's easily abused (a healer can use DPS items in his bag for example).

wwell it sounds alittle better , i just dont know if i should install cata ..... as WOW is kinda addictive if it has improved , has the engine changed much , ie does it look any better ?

I'm not playing anymore but with the Cata patch they certainly upped the graphics. Nothing astounding, you could still probably run it on a hamster wheel powered Amiga, but it is certainly a lot smoother and nicer looking than it was.

Still the same old community  if you are looking to re-roll/get back into it I would suggest looking up the WoW re-roll guild on the forums. Bans Hammer, horde side, on Defias Brotherhood server. I re-rolled along with them and they are a great bunch and extremely active, they are the only reason I played so long as I did before the WoW grind killed me off again. Generally look for Deadbeat, Indie or whoever Pixies new main is.

WoW end game basically goes something like this: raid and gear up for 12mths, buy new expansion and have the previous 12mths work wiped out. ad infinitum...

Were you in a guild?

While you need to gear up to raid, the heroic gear is fine for starting raiding and as it's still first tier of the expansion that's still the case. You won't get anywhere gearwise by pugging tho. You might get the odd drop, but nothing like the natural gear upgrades you get when raiding with a guild. Not to mention guilding raiding is like 1000000000 times better than pugging it in terms of gameplay experience.

Gearscore has gone

...BUT...

Theres a lot of reliance on ilvl now, at least there seems to be on Shadowsong (EU) for pugging and random raids, what a lot of people don't seem to grasp is thats its easy to boost your ilvl using vendor/rep rewards and pvp gear.

If your'e bored or not getting into many raids I'd say change guild tbh, see it happen all the time, the one's that start are normally the ones that stay raiding due to build/class balance of the group.

As for pugging, I'd pug BH on a classrun and thats about it tbh.

Not so much boring if you are in a good guild but it is repetitive and ultimately a complete waste of time to raid beyond clearing each dungeon once.

Yes. That's a good thing. How many people would still be playing if the max level was still 60 and no new raid content had been introduced....?

They could introduce new content without making everything previous to it useless, ie. adding new gear to old dungeons.. I used to love some of the old dungeons but you can't raid them now.

Are you alliance or horde on shadowsong?

Same boat, moved to brothers server to raid, raided about a month then just died out, I always seem to play WoW for like a month or 2 then stop playing again for about 6 months and go back to it.

Dont think I will anymore cause it generally is the same stuff over and over just on different classes.

Wish i could sell my account tbf then I know for sure i'd never go back to it
