Am I the only person in the world that completely HATES the rumble feature on pads?

it's alright when it's passive noise-wise, noticed sometimes on 360 though when it rumbles at maximum effect the pad doesn't half rattle and that's just plain irritating.

Depends on the game. It can be really gracefully implemented (Metroid Prime series springs to mind) or tacked on for the sake of it.

With rumble, I don't notice it when it's there but I certainly miss it when it's gone.

The very first thing I noticed when playing the PS3 was lack of rumble.

Every single person I know always has this enabled, yet it drives me mad - even more so in a fighting game or something.

Everyone complains the PS3 doesn't have a rumble on its pad but I have to admit that sounds good to me :p (don't own a PS3 though)

Am I alone in this view, or does anyone else hate the feature equally?

NO don't miss them at all..

Varies by game really.

Beat-em ups (SF2, DOA, Tekken etc) - BAD (distracting and not realistic to arcade roots of most beat em-ups).
Racers (PGR, GT, Burnout etc)- GOOD (adds extra immersion on corners and road edges, crashes)
Action (Ninja Gaiden, God of War, DMC) - GOOD (can help with combo timings etc)
FPS (Halo, UT, COD etc) GOOD/BAD (depends on strength of rumble, can be overdone in some games)
RPG/RTS - BAD (unnecessary).

Apart from those main types of games it can work well when used uniquely (MGS series and Rockstar Table Tennis come to mind), but in most othtr types of games I find it as distracting as unnecessary BGM music tbh.

I don't see how it can be hated. But obviously each to their own.

I feel it adds to the immersion slightly. Other than that, Not bothered. Works well in some games too, Like motion detector in MGS, Where it vibrates stronger the closer an enemy gets.(European extreme, although it may be on other modes)

As said, I see no reason to dislike it personally.

The rumble feature is used well in Bioshock the closer you get to Big Daddys......Certainly adds an extra element to the atmosphere :D
That's probably one of the only points I could agree on, quite a well implemented feature on Bioshock. Otherwise I find rumble irritating more often than not. In fact I had to disable rumble on FF12 because it was just really annoying me when going through certain areas ¬_¬

And I personaly don't miss it in the PS3, sure when dual shock 3 comes out in UK, I'll probly get a pad eventually, but it's not a "MUST HAVE NOWZ!!!" feature for me.

the only time ive ever turned it off was when we got serious about golden eye back in the day, it made the pad lighter and helped you be smoother. But these days I leave it off, its good stuff imo.

Aint really bothered tbh! I think its worn a little thin since the days of the 64 and the rumble pack! Where you would just love the fact it rumbles, didnt really care if it added to the game!:D

I like rumble, I prefer to feel the 'kick' of a gun when I'm firing in FPS games, Resistance was a perfect example where it was just poor, there was no sense of power from the guns.

To be fair half of that was because of unimaginative design and no thought for gun balance.

I have mine switched off on the 360 by default and I don't miss it. Haven't used it since the Halo 2 days :p

That explains why you suck at halo 3 then ;)
