Am I wrong to discount FWD cars?

Eh?

Classic came with 236 akaik

It is also quite far removed from being anything like a rapid car.

You are thinking of the Turbo 2000 (Which was.. 212 or something?). All Classic WRX's are imports with 286bhpish.

It was only in 2001 with the Bug-eye that WRX bcame a UK trim level.

The 2000 was the only UK spec classic?

I actually didn't read that before hand, I've taken the 237 from the number of imports that kick about.

So unless its jap import, classis scoobie wrx (non STI) is only over 200 mark..

I didn't see that, even with 286BHP, an Impreza isn't going to be so fast that I won't see which way it went.

Incidentally, I had a play with a friend in his P1 (with somewhere around that power level) at the weekend, it isn't "OMG WHERE DID HE GO" faster.

Any Classic Impreza you see on UK roads with 'WRX' on the back (We'll ignore people sticking the wrong badges on stuff) is an import with 280bhp+. There are absolutely loads of them in the UK, but all are imports.

Therefore a Classic WRX = 280bhp+.

Misleading Wikipedia article is misleading.

Yeah, but what was said in the thread was 'Subaru Impreza WRX Classic'

Not 'import' stuck on the end of it! :p

But yes, I'll concede it is a confusing topic.

Also, even the STI is booked at 270BHP, so how do you figure the WRX makes 280? (When it is in fact, 237bhp).

There wasn't a UK WRX Classic afaik.

"UK-spec
[edit] GC8A (1992)
The WRX was introduced as the Impreza GT (Europe), Turbo 2000(UK). It came with 208 bhp (155 kW; 211 PS).
"

Well yes, I suppose so..

My Integra was quicker than a UK Classic WRX. They were pretty tragically slow really, i think Fox is confusing the WRX with the STi?

'Fox gets stats wrong in OCUK shocker'

No, I am not wrong.

The UK Spec cars are called the Turbo 2000 (And the various special editions).

The WRX's are all grey imports.

I don't care what somebody else wrote on Wikipedia. If you see WRX on the back of a classic Impreza, its an import model (Unless an owner has got enthusiastic with badging).

The only thing I'm wrong about is that it seems the 97 on WRX's were 280ps, the earlier ones less.

Indeed, though the specials never carried the name afaik, they were simply given the special name I think (ie it was the Impreza RB5 WR)

The classic WRX was a UK model though? and based on experience they are certainly not 286bhp fast.

I don't actually care enough to make an issue of it, I still this the ST would see which way this classic WRX went.

The classic WRX was a UK model though

The UK model was the Impreza Turbo 2000 (And Series Mcrea, Terzo, RB5, P1, etc).

The Classic WRX was the JDM version.

Obviously UK models are not 280bhp fast, because they are considerably less powerful. But then they are Impreza Turbo 2000's and not Impreza WRX's..

they are a heavily butchered car from what I know.. blown engines etc down to one guy in glasgow I know who specialises in 'making' P1 wrx's on his drive (paying people to do the work really), amongst a few other not so nice hobbies.

I think he's churned out various cat c/d's as imports etc some of the cars that the bits come from are clearly stolen, but its not polite to enter into discussion is it..

I wouldn't be buying off him, and I wouldn't be buying one of them either in general. Unless it was 1 owner, but I still wouldn't want the car.
