The better half reckons they're far too gauche to have a AM badge but the Vantage has consistently remained in my top 5 cars to own. I'm not asking "should I buy one", nothing anybody says will change my mind that having a 5.3L twin supercharged, hand built, penis compensating Aston Martin in the garage is anything but a good thing. But I'd be interested in opinions, I can't really be objective about them...something that seems to come up again and again is that the look of it.

I'd normally ignore opinions on something as subjective but maybe some friends and family have a point. I won't mention the specific criticisms, I'd be interested to see if the same issues come up here.

Opinions?

Absolutely love them. Had a nose at them a few weeks back - they have certainly held their value, but there are some gorgeous ones kicking about still.

You'll buy it, enjoy it for a few weeks and then realise, like ALL Astons, it's not all that and wonder why the hell you bought the thing.

The body to me looks too much like the result of an over enthusastic kit car or mr2 with stick on tat body kit.

Horrendously ugly. The new one is the only one that I could consider 'proper', that thing looks like it should have a TVR badge on it or something.

I stood over one years ago drooling & wondering whether I could sell everything & tick myself up the rest to own Almost the Exact same car. I was Dreaming obviously but if it's Reality for you then go for it Dude & share it with us.

I thought you meant a proper one.

Too much ambiguity with the Vantage name, but to me, this is *the* Vantage, what you posted is a V8 Vantage. Not my cuppa though.

Ahh, but what a great couple of weeks. I think you have to be totally realistic with something like this and not let the expectations run riot. I'm sure you know these are the last of the coachbuilt heavyweights...hand rolled, hand beaten ally panels, 8 coats of paint, stuffed with Connally and Wilton topped off with Mondeo handles and Citroen mirrors. Just don't compare it to anything modern, ignore the 8mpg and service costs and I bet it's a riot.

I've seen one in the flesh and it is bloody lovely machine, big too.

They are big but seem absolutely huge in the flesh...

I wasn't expecting kit car or MR2 comparisons :D, that's a new one to me.

Don't expect it to be agile at all, weighing in at nearly 2 tonnes.

If anything goes wrong with it, be prepared for potentially eye watering bills. If you can afford to run it then definitelty go for it. You only live once so may as well have no regrets.

Just make sure you go into ownership with your eyes wide open.
