AM Vantage. The proper one.

I love these, have had a model of one since I could remember, green with cream interior. They just have so much presence, would love to have a drive in one let alone own one!

It looks like a current day Vantage and Mustang had an affair..

i LOVE it, agree with any comments about buying it with your heart, because that is 100% what you'd do :) If I had the money I know I would!

I really like the Original V8 Vantage, and the DB4/5/6 have those classic lines aswell

The Later Astons i dont know, just seem to be really expensive, compared to dare i say it Jaguars

With the Virage you had the XJS as an alternative and personally i prefer the XJS, and in the case of the twin SC Virage there was also a beast of a XJS if you were up for it a twin S/C 7 litre V12no less, again i'd take the Lister XJS over a supercharged Virage, but i've a bit of a soft spot for the XJS so maybe it's just me

I dunno. I love the XJ-S, I think it's one of the true all-time great cars in V12 form. But that Lister modified one does look tacky and gauche.

If it looked absolutely standard on the outside, it'd be great. But that bodykit doesn't do much for the lines of the car at all IMO. The engine is awesome, no doubt about it (and John Bolster always said that a car for gentlemen should have 12 cylinders), but that car just looks like a lashed-together halfway house between a grand tourer and a silhouette racer.

Both are proper cars - before Aston Martins became footballers' posing pouches.

Back then there was no doubt that an Aston was a man's car. They were never the same after Victor Gauntlett's era.

I'll see if I can get hold of him. I know for a fact the bugger left his phone behind, hopefully he'll check his e-mail on an overnight stop somewhere.

Excellent, really appreciated. Please don't bother him while he's away though, I'm in no hurry and rather he didn't feel rushed or anything. Again, cheers.

Just had a look on pistonheads, examples range from £60,000 all the way to £120,000. Is there a major difference between these apart from condition? Or is it the difference between a 'V600' edition and a normal Vantage?

There is a massive premium on the Le Mans and the Vantage prices seem ultra-dependent on mileage and service, quite a big spread. On top of that they are rare cars, 280 in all with a good chunk in LHD and the personalisation service offered on the car means that there is an exagerrated inflation on the well chosen interior/exterior colour combinations.

I don't think there ever was a blown Virage, I'm probably wrong, but regarding the Jags, nice cars and all but personally I think the Vantage is on a different level.

I'm sure there was another Clarkson segment on the Vantage, there was a line about it being Darth Vaders car that stuck in my head, can't find it though.

Arhh Jezza in the '90s, on old Top Gear, he was just starting to find the presenting style we are all familiar with now but then he really did have a tendency to present in the same sort of way as Quentin Wilson did, which seems odd now looking back. The bit about "poetic violence" is much more Clarkson though :p

When I first started taking an interest in performance cars, coincidentally Performance Car did a road test on the AM Vantage. After reading that I was totally hooked on it. Its still definitely in my top 5 Want list, mainly just for what it stands for; raw power, sheer luxury, no expense spared motoring. Absolutely love it

Simply glorious. That is a real Aston Martin. It has a real bespoke feel combined with a muscular appearance that gives it real presence. Love it.

I would have bought one 10 years ago, but couldn't afford it then. Now I've moved on to F cars but that doesn't stop me admiring them nor would it stop me drooling over one I saw in the flesh.

I like it, very unique looking and to me, not that ugly. I'd drive an Ariel Atom daily, so something like this would be a sensible car for me and given the opertunity I would. There's no point going through life, working hard and giving away most your life to it then never experience the things you want but are in a position to.

Although I'll probably never know what this Aston is like, I guess its a much more raw experience compared to say my bosses Vanquish S, which even at silly speeds it didn't feel that dramatic or even sound that dramatic from the inside, but then the experience is always totally different from the passenger seat. I'm sure driving it is much more exhilirating. I also love the hand built idea, reminds me of men in flat caps doing what they know and do best with some fine traditional skills I wish I had. I'd buy it just to honor those guys. My boss has some pics of his Aston in the fit and finish stage where there's some random blokes poking it with a screwdriver so he knows who to blame if anything falls off :D
