AM2+ Vs AM3

Yes it will work since you're using AM2+ CPU, but for AM3 support you might need to update the BIOS. Although you'd expect it to support both out of the box since it's advertised in the AM3 section.

The Asus AM3 M4A79 Deluxe AMD 790FX (Socket AM2+/AM3) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard Is the board to get if your going Asus DDR2 as its an improved version of the Asus M3A79-T Deluxe AMD 790FX.

Gigabyte have AM2+ DDR2 version of their AM3 DDR3 Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P, Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 mobo called the-

GA-MA790X-UD4P & GA-MA790FX-UD5P. Notice no T in the name.

the reason why i said it may need flashing is because not all am2+ accepts the 940 out of the box even tho it's a am2+ chip. my board didn't accept the 940 out of the box even tho my board is am2+

so with a am3 chip such a 720 or 810, u can only use 1 ram stick per channel? if so then thats crap.

also the pci/pcie slots are to close together, putting a gpu in the top pcie slot will cover the pci slot, so basicly you've only got one pci slot to play with.

why don't board makers put the first pcie slot near the bottom then that way u can use all the slots above that. i guess thats to easy, :D

Stop moaning much?

The board is for quad Xfire and does a grand job, it's the best slot placement for that.

I'm also running all 4 slots occupied for a total of 8GB ram and no problems at all.

All the Asus modos say that if you look at the specs
Even the one you priced up. Asus M3A79-T Deluxe AMD 790FX

thats alttle bit silly because it may put some people off buying it.

It means you do your home work & make sure you buy or have the right ram to get you 1066 x 4 slots for that mobo & read the Deluxe Memory QVL for each plus some info from users who already have the board.
They are basically saying don't take it for granted.

So will my memory choice be ok? :D

yeah 2x 2gb u are getting?

im using Kingston and OCZ in my board. lol

DFI modo ATM tend to be more forgiving & versatile with ram & with ram in 4x1066 configuration & DFI dont have the standard Due to limition the specs like Asus, MSI ect...

Read the QVL.
You can not take for granted that any ram from a brand type will work at 4x1066 because someone else has memory from that brand that works unless you getting the exact same kit including ID.
its just pot luck..

also i don't trust the QVL because about 8-9months ago i bought some ram that was on the QVL for my board but guess what , it didn't work.

You most likely had the wrong ID= part number & its not 100% foolproof as sometimes the chips used change.
