I have heard a lot about the Core 2 Duo being ownage but does that £150 more you spend on the Core 2 worth it if im using it for basic gaming, Grpahics editing & general use?

Why is the Core 2 Duo better than the AM2, i know the Core 2 has a bigger L2 Cache but does it really make that much difference?

How it £150 more?

Core 2 cpus and AM2 cpus are comparable, the RAM is the same if you go C2D or AM2 and the mobos are comparable as well :)

ID like to know whats better aswell, as ive kind of been an AMD fanboy and i dont wanna go and buy a C2D rig then to find out AMD have brought out a kicka$$ CPU that owns Intel.

The cheapest Core 2 Duo chips (4300 and 6300) will clock to over 3GHz. At that speed they're quick enough for pretty much anything you care to throw at them, and will be faster than most, if not all of AMD's offerings.

C2D only comes into it's own if you're overclocking, at stock the AM2 and C2D chips at the same price are roughly the same performane.

Agreed, well until you get the 6600 and upwards where i think Intel pulls ahead.

As for AMD releasing a kick as chip, this might well be the case if you want to wait until July time when Barcelona and Agena come out.

I just bought an fx60 for £185, planning to use this for the rest of the year and then see what the story is next year with what cpu "owns" the other. With any luck quad cores will be more of a standard with a 1333fsb and hopefully a little more affordable. :)
