AM2 whats next?

DDR3 by august time ?? Bugger me thats gonna be quick, the only thing they need to do is get faster hard disks, i mean u could run 3-4 SATA's in RAID, if u understand right that would help speed things up.

Didn't realize that the AM2's didn't overclock much, and here i was trying to push my 2.8 to 3.1 !! o well, i'll just be happy with 3.0.

But will Graphics cards start useing DDR4 ?? or will they come up with a whole new way of working ?!?!?

gfx cards next month will have gddr4, ddr3 won't be out this year, just a chip that by design WILL support it. ddr3 only just made an appearance at cebit(properly), iirc we saw ddr2 at cebit in like stupid production samples NOT in systems 2 years before we saw ddr2 on desktops, the year before we saw some systems at cebit running ddr2 but on chipsets not being released all that soon). this year there are a "couple" of systems with ddr3 at cebit on intels next chipsets. not sure when they are out but remember, ddr2/ddr3 are pin compatible, i think one of the ecs boards supported both ddr2/ddr3. so expect to see those chipsets on boards whenever they are due but i'd expect they, like AM3 chips, will be launched without ddr3 available, but i would think ddr3 might be out 2008 q1/2 rather than 3/4.

looks like ddr3 will start with something like 800-1200 support with 1600mhz very soon after, or on release by ocz/corsair and the like at £18,000 per gig.

it will make a difference, but probo not that much, its only a small part of the system.

can't remember if AM3 will have any support for fbdimms, think like rdram it sounds like its gonna be too expensive to hit mainstream. are their xeon chipsets/boards that use fb dimms? i can't remember at all.

AM3 won['t but 1207+ and whatever is the next server socket most likely will.

Yep, no DDR 3 until at least next year, and on Intel platforms to start with.

I am still unsure if Barcelona/Agena will support DDR2 and DDR3 to begin with or if this will be part of another cpu revision when AM3 is released.
