SO my current PC is 3 years old now, the spec looks something like this....
Phenom XII 555 BE @3.9GHz
Gigabyte MA770t UD3P MoBo
4gb Corsair DDr3 1600
Corsair 550 PSU
1 tb Spinpoint F3

I'm thinking of going stepping up to a 965BE, 8gb Corsair (2x4gb)

What do you think to that? worth doing?
Will the MoBo support the new setup?

Thoughts much appreciated :)

Oh yeah... just check out my CPU-Z sig!

hmmmm, I've not been on here for ages... it's suddenly become apparent that the little amount of OC'ing knowledge I had has deminished!

Lets try from a different angle then....

what's a good all round AM3 socket PC look like?
Should I stay ATX or go MATX?
There's nothing wrong with the Antec 300
8gb DDR3 seems the norm
My PSU is fine at 550w

Where would you guys go with this?

Is it the lack of cores on this X2 that is ruining the computer?
I often get than freeze and noise when itunes is doing something in the background, I guess thats taxing my cpu along with all of the other background stuff...

struggling to find a 960t... I think I'll go 965BE with 8gb corsair + maybe up the GPU, I've only got a 4350, might as well chuck a 5770 in there they must be sub £80 odd now surely...

5770's seem to be the same price they were 3 years ago when I built this PC... What the hell?

Is it still a good GPU to go for?
I'm not after super dooper GFX, just capable of of one HD screen 1080p and the odd game here n there...

Also, would it be safe to assume that my Arctic Cooler that can keep my 3.9GHz 80w 555 at max temp of 37ºC after several hours of Prime95 will manage with the 125w 965 hopefully pushing 4GHz below 50ºC?

That took me a second to work out what you had done there hono!!!
I think £55 is a little steep on the premise that 2 1gb versions have sold on a popular auction site for less than £50. I'd rather pay a bit more and be good for another 2 years or so.
Maybe then ill step up to and intel chipset!

Thanks for the link though fella, I'd scoured the MM and missed that one!

On a side-I've got my hands on a 955BE with 2yrs warranty for what I consider to be a good price. C3 stepping, is that better than C2?

Hono-you are quickly becoming a legend :D
Any particular brand 460?
Thanks for your time buddy :)

Also... which RAM

DDR3 Dual-Channel - PC3-14400+
DDR3 Dual-Channel - PC3-12800
DDR3 Dual-Channel - PC3-10666

And any 'better value' than another? my default choice would be
Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9B) £37.99
but I remember something to do with my current cpu/mobo running RAM at much lower speeds or something...
Could you spec me some RAM around the £30-£40 mark please.

Thanks!

This is what It looks like atm with 4gb of corsair in there.

I went through 'Dolks guide' as a refresher (not sure if you're aware of it?) but he basically says as It's a BE to just use the multiplier and I've upped the CPU NB to around 2400MHz... seems to have worked although I will need to have a good read into it all again when the new chip arrives :D

RE 1 x TeamGroup Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01) £19.99

Should the CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS 11-11-11-28 concern me at all?
