Hi chaps, Been toying with the idea on getting a i7 1366 cpu, ram, mobo again but im not so sure if it would be really worth it!

Here is my current rig

Phemon II x4 970 @ 3.5 stock
XFX 5870 XXX 900/1250 stock
4GB DDR3 Gskill 1600MHz
MSI 790FX-GD70

All i use my pc for really is gaming. Shall i make the switch over?

PLEASE NO FAN BOYS

for just gaming i doubt it'll be worth it.

althou the i7 is a faster chip, a lot of that power isn't used in games, so there wont be much difference between it and your current one.

especially considering the price you will need to pay to upgrade.

i would wait until next year, then get the i7 sandybridge equivilant

The Phemon II x4 970 is a very good overclocker according to some reports on the web.

What you have is more than adequate for the current generation of games and beyond. I'd be more than happy with that until another generation appears, i'm skipping hexa core personally, its pointless for gaming on a cost/performance basis on a gaming machine

Alright so shall i not bother with i5 and i7 and just overclock what i have already?

I suppose i could sell my mobo and cpu and keep the ram for the i5 and just get a mobo and a cpu or do you think thats still not worth it ?

Why????? You have more than enough power to slaughter any game at the res you're playing at. Why buy an i5 or i7 now when a new chip and socket will be here early in the new year. Forgive the friendly sarcasm, matey, but, "Ar ya havin' a larf?" ;):D;):D

Its just a pointless waste of time, seriously if you did it you really wouldnt notice any difference in gaming, keep you current set up (mine is a 965) and concentrate on GPU's. You dont even need to overclock, I havent bothered but I may do in the future

At 1680x1050 that rig should murder most games. Also, isn't the 970 quite new? Why upgrade so soon? I have the 965 at stock, never had a problem with any games, even CPU heavy stuff like encoding/rendering is good. Keep what you have.

Alright i will keep what i have, I just get bored maybe i will get overclocking the 970 as i have seen over @ overclock.net there really good overclockers.
