AM3 to I7

Yeah i did have a 965 before hand bought it then 1 day later 970 came out :s Felt robbed so i took it back and got the 970 for £5 more! Even though its only a OUTSTANDING 100MHZ improvement lol

There is no real difference in the performance of a 965 compared to a 970 at stock speeds. The difference comes in at the over clocking capabilities.

On a single 5870, I see no point of going i5/i7, unless you play lots of WOW or Crysis, which the overclocked i5/i7 will deliver higher frame rate than the overclocked Phenom II X4.

Games' support for Quad is becoming common standard, there would be almost not frame rate difference on a single 5870...unlike games that only use two cores or less. However if you are going crossfire on the 5870, then you would likely to get better frame rate on the overclocked i5/i7 than the overclocked Phenom II X4.

Well i would never go sli or crossfire so your saying they would be no difference in gaming then ?

Say if i had the cpu i got now with a gtx 480 and a i7 with a gtx 480 they wouldnt be much in it then?

Well chaps, it seems i have done okay here. Basically sold my am3 setup for £300!!! and bought a i7 setup for £315 :) thought may aswell?

Here is what i have got for £315.

Asus P6T Deluxe oc palm.
i7 920
corsair xms3 6gb 1600MHz

Not a bad little setup what do you guys think?

I would go for the X6 if you really want more power. You have a good config and it isn't worth spending loads just for an i7.

I disagree. The system is for gaming, a i7 920 benches better than any phemon II and its only costing me £15 to make the switch. Dont get me wrong the am3 setup i had is good but not on the same level as the i7 ( ive had a i7 920 rig before )
