Bought a new board, expensive mistake.
Deleted and ordered new mobo
No, i broke the plastic AM4 CPU base connector that the CPU sits on then get locked down with metal lever, nothing to do with the motherboard backplate. You bought a whole new motherboard just to replace the plastic mounts for the CPU cooler? You can buy them pretty much anywhere and they screw into the backplate. No need to buy a whole new motherboard.
You mean you broke the socket......interested to know how ?No, i broke the plastic AM4 CPU base connector that the CPU sits on then get locked down with metal lever, nothing to do with the motherboard backplate.
I sourced one from somewhere for around £5, not 100% sure it will install ok as ive never done it before and its very fiddly around the socket to lock it down without damaging the mobo CPU pins. Ill try though luckily its only a A520 board and not a top end board. If it is the AM4 retention brackets, you can buy them from most online places like Amazon.
That is not a bracket and is the socket as Jamin stated. Do you have a picture of your situation? The plastic CPU socket can also be replaced. No, i broke the plastic AM4 CPU base connector that the CPU sits on then get locked down with metal lever, nothing to do with the motherboard backplate.
The actual CPU socket (pins) on mobo and the metal lever are fine. its the plastic shroud the CPU sits on which is connected to the CPU socket and then get locked down with the metal lever which is broken. You mean you broke the socket......interested to know how ?

"The plastic shroud can be changed but it can be quite fiddly and it is fragile.
This is the problem i will try and fix, just got to wait for delivery

The retention tabs are mostly what hold the plastic shroud in place (minus a few tabs on the other edges). However, it looks like the left retention clip is damaged already and this is part of the CPU socket that's attached to the motherboard. Can you check that more in-depth or take more images from different angles?[/url
