A friend from work is wanting get his lad a pc for xmas told him he needs start looking sooner rather than later

Ive got a gpu he can have 6650xt for now hel be gaming a1080 for now and upgrading to 1440 later on so gpu is sorted

I was thinking 5800x3d 1tb and 32gig

Hes got a budget of 1k

Does he need a monitor, keyboard and mouse etc?

You're best off going AM5 if buying totally new right now, you've enough with 1K assuming the GPU is covered but the above question will make a difference.

No hes got monitor keyboard etc

My basket at OcUK:
Total: GBP965.85 (includes delivery: GBP0.00)

- M-ATX as that's a preference of mine, you could build a mid-tower for around the same money.
- AiO isn't necessary, a £15-20 air cooler would be ample, but being a kid I imagine he'd appreciate the bling.
- I'd personally spring the extra for a 2tb NvME, but that will put you over budget by a little.
- PSU is overkill, but it gives you plenty of upgrade options down the line, you could technically save a bit by going with something like the MSI A650BN/A750BN.

The 7600X is about on par with the 5800X3D in games, but you get a more modern and future proof platform with AM5.

Does this apply to DDR5? Am guessing DDR4 is cheaper but slower?
the ram you require is dictated by which platform combo you go for

you can't mix and match
AM4 requires DDR4 ram...you can't use DDR5
in the same vein, AM5 requires DDR5, you can't use DDR4 on AM5

I'd probably have a little shop in members market and see if you can put something together either more powerful for the same price, or the same performance for a lot cheaper.

I was looking at a Am4 build but I also came to the conclusion am5 is the way to go.

But ram prices currently are shocking and put me off.
