Somewhat surprising facts

The UK has growing approximately 500,000 Giant Redwood trees and they are growing just as well over here as in their nstive California. Ours are about 160 years old but they can age to over 2000 years.

That's a staggering number compared to their native range, but our climate isn't so harsh as California so it's easier for them to thrive.

I am the custodian of this 160y/o baby. There is a second one in the garden, although it's surrounded by other mature trees and quite difficult to photograph despite its size. Sadly, a third has to be removed due to disease.

Any problems with where that one is situated?

Super gardens, the only similarity with mine is the blue Arbor seat lower down. :)

Speaking of trees, my parents used to get a small payment to look after the monkey puzzle trees which were on their property when they moved in. They would get weird monkey puzzle nerds turning up to take photos, takes all sorts I guess

Leaping from tree to tree, as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia.
The Giant Redwood. The Larch. The Fir! The mighty Scots Pine!

With my best girl by my side.

I was a formwork designer about thirty years ago and the amount of Douglas fir and Larch ply board my work consumed was utterly humungous. I also devoured teams of paper in drawings and calculations

Heh, monkey puzzle trees seem to date a property.

I'm assuming there was a craze for them several decades ago?

That will be the problem with just one, not if you have a forest. I was thinking more about the road
Hard to tell from the photo but the tree sits about 60cm beneath the road which is also permeable. No sign of any roots lifting it up either. The road has been there since it was planted so very much used to being there, I guess.

Lumberjack Song Monty Python (1974)
Spoken intro:
“I didn’t want to be a barber anyway. I wanted to be a lumberjack…
Leaping from tree to tree, as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia!
The giant red wood, the larch, the fir, the mighty scots pine! The smell of fresh cut timber,
the crash of mighty trees, with my best girlie by my side, we’d sing, sing, sing! …
Oh, I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay! I sleep all night. I work all day.
He's a lumberjack and he's okay! He sleeps all night, and he works all day.
I cut down trees; I eat my lunch; I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shopping, and have buttered scones for tea.
He cuts down trees; he eats his lunch; he goes to the lavatory.

He's a lumberjack and he's okay!
He sleeps all night, and he works all day!
I cut down trees; I skip and jump; I like to press wildflowers.
I put on women’s clothing, and hang around in bars.
He cuts down trees; he skips and jumps; he likes to press wildflowers.
He puts on women’s clothing, and hangs around in bars?
He's a lumberjack and he's okay! He sleeps all night, and he works all day.
I cut down trees. I wear high-heels, suspenders, and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girly, just like my dear mama.
He cuts down trees. He wears high-heels, suspenders, and a bra????
…Hey what's all this?!@!??!
Oh, I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay! I sleep all night. I work all day.
He's a lumberjack and he's okay! ……He sleeps all night, and he works all day.

:D Ahh what a classic:D

I’m sorry but do you live in a castle with grounds that big, and can I visit?

Haha yeah quite possibly, all the rage in the 70s! :p

I remember the seed 'eggs' that grew on them, they were crazy scary as a small child, looked like alien eggs and they used to explode too!
