So for a while I knew/suspected chrome had some sort of website/text scanning software built in. Basically I would be reading something online, go to Google it by typing it in the search bar and it's usually the top suggestion.

Tonight I am watching a TV episode online, and they are talking about shrinky dinks. So as usual I went to Google it, to find out more. After typing in "shrink" it's the top suggestion! Now I can't imagine shrinky dink is a top Google search and therefore Google somehow scanned the speech in the video!.....

Am I just being paranoid almost thinking there's a conspiracy theory here? Or is there some sort of thing going on? I always knew it was happening but not quite to this extent.

because thousands of other people who've watched that show have typed it in?

Or it's the most common search starting with shrink as all google shows it.

Also they are a pretty popular toy.

But how do you know google has scanned the text I read and is now suggesting it as a top search option?..... :p

I'm sure I've done some fairly obscure google's in my time after reading something and wanting to know more.

I don't get any of that crap because I have auto prompting turned off :)

Doesn't mean google isn't spying on me.

I visited iwantoneofthose the other day, now every add everywhere by google features the things I was looking at.

By the way, you should check out omnibar, it's an awesome extension that merges the search and address box.

i like them seperate :p

normally just use the address bar as the i'm feeling lucky google search anyway.

I just used that as i needed the drop down menu with the suggestions i hate drop down things :p

But then you have to remember what sites you have been and what not! With them merged you can just type the first few letters and go there straight away or just search, without having to use any brain cells!

i have history turned off :p

use "recently closed" tabs for anything i've accidentally closed :p

Why in the world would you turn history off? Don't most browsers have a cache as well which will give away just as much as the history.
I am confused as to what type of human you are, if you get distracted too often you could just have an encrypted virtual machine ready with safe browsing turned on.

Nah i'm weird i keep some things insanely tidy (for example my desk top is plain black with only 2 icons, recycle bin and a notepad document that contains notes/things to remember) yet my real desk top is piled with about a years accumulated crap.

then my carpet is very clean but my book case is filthy so much so you can write in the dust :p

the 24" monitors provides plenty of room for lots of tabs :p

Also i like searching for things and my mouse has a google button so i just highlight and click that to search :p

so chrome is listening to things said on tv ? amazing really I believe :)

poor chrome having to watch a million episodes of east enders, coronation street and snog marry or avoid simultaneously.

Surprised the thing doesn't commit suicide :(

its quite scary that people term searching for something as "googling" it now, maybe they have something subliminal going on with their browser and search engine too :o
