In this manner, build-up of heat is avoided and thermal dissipation of the memory components is offloaded more efficiently through the honeycomb design. At the same time, mechanical stability is maintained.

8GB for £140! WTF!

I paid more than that for 2GB of Geil ULL at the start of the year!

i've got some money, but i havent bought my christmas presents yet :( so thats a whole lot gone... do it for january, then i'll have more money and 2nd payday so should have about £600 to play with, then bring on the 4GB ram, E2180 and P35

Shames the 8gb ocz stuff requires over 2 volts, my motherboard doesnt do that :(
Will have to go for the 2 kits of ocz 4gb@5400 I think it was as these run at the standard 1.8volts.

Ordered the XMS2 this morning, was rude not to at that price. Could do with the extra RAM with Vista 64bit.

Should come tomorrow, but as it's Royal mail, I think sometime in mid January is realistic.

Installing 4GB onto PCs with 32-bit operating systems is not advised since 32-bit operating systems do not support 4GB of system memory.

:(

I was planning to get 2 more gig, but now. what happens if I do get 4 gig?

I have 8gb and to be honest I wouldn't recommend it at the moment. 4gb gives better performance for everything other than image and Video editing (all that kinda stuff) and even then I don't know how much I would notice it over having 4gb.

I bet games run better with 4gb as the timings are tighter and it's quicker to get the data etc.

Maybe in a years time 8gb will give an advantage, I've been uhhmming and aaahhhing about taking out 4gb and selling it. :o

32-bit will show you around 3.2Gb. Its a total of 4gb, but then you take off all the other memory in your system and then a little bit. Thats included video ram, caches and a lot more. So you get roughly 3.2gb.

I've got this sneaky feeling with memory prices at such a low price i.e DDR2 at a time when usually memory prices are sky high must mean that manufacturers must be trying to get rid of as much as possible.

This is just an hypothesis, but DDR3 will become mainstream next year whether we like it or not. . . prices are high now but you watch the next few months. :)

I also think people just aren't spending money at the moment. It's not just RAM that's being heavily discounted - the OcUK 24" monitor is very good value, their GTX is probably the cheapest in the country, but most folks are happy with £35 worth of RAM and the 19" they paid £200 for last year. Most new builds are based on 2180s or Q6600's at best and the days of £2500 PCs at Christmas are confined to a few really ignorant punters who have confused "Where in the world?" with "How on earth can they charge that?".

The only thing that's commanding a premium at the moment is the "bargain" 8800GT, and that's actually more than an 8800GTS used to be, although it's performance is very good.

This is just an hypothesis, but DDR3 will become mainstream next year whether we like it or not. . . prices are high now but you watch the next few months. :)

Agreed - it's a slow burner - like DDR2 was.
