Hey Guys

If i went down the route of getting Echos or Alexa's (or even Google Home) put around the house to control various things such as smart heating and lights could I set it all up in the app settings so that my account also works for my partner and guests?

For example, if I had set it up on my account to say "Turn on living room lights" could my partner then be able to say the same thing and get the desired outcome...lights turning on in living room?

OR do i have to set up an account for her and duplicate everything and train her voice?

I'm really hoping its not the latter as that would be a right headache!!

Thanks

Voice controls can be done by anyone. Apart from adding reminders to your calendar etc as it YOUR calendar. They can still set alarms etc.

It's not locked to a specific voice (at least not by default), so anyone can give it commands.
You can link household accounts however so e.g. if your partner has a different Amazon Music library you could then effectively pool your music collection.

Does that work for Spotify too Hangtime?

It's annoying being in the car and having my spotify cut off because my wife is listening to an Alexa at home.

The Echos here are all on my account and they respond to the other half just fine.
Can't run the voice training in the UK anyway.

I really want an Alexa unit...but I DONT KNOW WHY!!!!

looks like they are offering 20 quid off on their black friday deal and a smart plug for 9.99 if you buy them together

I went with Google Home in the end. Its massively discounted at the moment and bagged a Home and a Mini for under £110.

I couldn't justify buying one, my dad ended up getting me it for my birthday as he couldn't justify buying it for himself either :p So he just messes about with mine when he's round!

I only really use it for music, can't decide what room to have it in either.. What's the Dot speaker like for music?

The dot is not great for music without using the bluetooth or the line out.

Speaker is just too small and tinny. It's more than ok for spoken word stuff though. Podcasts and audiobooks for example.

I concur, the Dot is poor sound quality wise (sounds like a typical clock radio) although one thing I have noticed is it sounds better if you don’t lay it down flat with the buttons facing upwards - this seems to muffle the sound a bit so if you turn it upside down or ideally prop it up a bit it sounds better.

Mine has replaced my clock radio, I use it for alarm,radio/music and it links to my harmony for tv and lighting control in the bedroom. As I’ve got prime I stuck with the echo over the Google offering.

my echo and dot should arrive today, as above i'm not 100% sure why I've ordered them because Id on't have anything smart in my home (yet)
I'm sure SMART will start to expand now that i have them though :)
