Amazon bins 130000 products a week from one distribution center alone.

like farmers they destroyed tons and tons of potatoes during covid literally just buying them in huge mass potato graves.

oh look less demand for milk, instead of give it away they pour it out into the earth.

if you can't sell it you must destroy it thats capitalism

Like its stealing if I ate a couple of perfectly untouched cupcakes that a cafe customer left behind instead of binning them, even though they had already been paid for.

I still ate them when no one was looking.

Anyway dont Amazon claim it all goes to a recycling centre? I suspect the only things which end up in landfill are the cheap chinese tat.

The high end laptops and TVs will be recycled

I would imagine it does go to recycling, especially the WEEE stuff. The audits on destroyed/recycled goods are extremely thorough and a company as big as amazon would ensure they're following legislation.

It is also basic management accounting. If you are giving something away, you need to fill out the paperwork. If you are throwing stuff away, you must throw it away. The person receiving must have the right paperwork to "book in" this gifted inventory and report to the relevant authorities.

It isn't an easy problem to solve - what to do with 130k bits of tat per week for a single warehouse. And as the poster above said, WEEE should cover the electronics side of things.

I hope you never find out what freeganism is.
You are way over egging your ability to not eat sugary crap that is free to a movement about least participation possible in capitalistic society.

You are literally living on the proceeds of capitalism at the cost of the tax payer. You are the polar opposite of freeganism

Yep since the Chinese manufacturers have been able to sell directly to the West it has just flooded the market with cheap tat.

I know a lot of that was being sold here before via a UK reseller but at least then there was someone in the UK being held for responsible for the safety of the products they are selling. Plus like Jono says you now have the same product being sold by hundreds of sellers, some with a slightly different spec or just have changed the description / pictures. It makes trying to find something reasonably priced but not complete rubbish so much harder.

Yep, its a nightmare, and just looking at the heaps of this stuff on ebay and Amazon makes me wonder how long it is all sustainable.

To be honest, there is just simply too much choice and too much variation in pricing for the same thing.

Im looking for a paddle board for the summer, and **** me if there isnt three billion different types, all at wildly random and different prices.

...from a lot of manufacturers you've never heard of. With lots of gleaming fake Amazon reviews. Amazon is just a bazaar for cheap tat these days.

Start with the question in Google "Best X in 2021" and then the same in YouTube.

Get a short list, look for reviews for those on the shortlist.

Pick one.
