Amazon Drive Unlimited Storage Coming to an End

I've just received an email from Amazon, informing me that they are ending their unlimited storage plan for £55/year.

They announced this for the US earlier in the year but have now made it official for the UK.

I'm annoyed because at the end of September I contacted Amazon to ask if the changes they were making to the US would affect the UK. They categorically told me that there were no plans to remove the unlimited plan for the UK and that I would be able to renew it when my current subscription ends in March 2018.

I then proceeded to upload over 2TB of data, which finished syncing about a week ago, and now I've got an email telling me that based on my current usage I'll be going from £55/year to £160.

Joke's on me for taking them at their word.

So I'm now going to move to Hubic — 10TB for €50/year — and I'll have to re-upload all of my data. Hopefully it will finish syncing before the beginning of March when my Amazon sub ends.

At the time you asked they probably didn't have plans to change the tariffs, most cloud storage providers will no doubt have a issue with you storing 2TB on there for a cheap price, they want customers who store upto 1gb and less.

Any time something like this is offered I would always treat it as an introductory offer and inevitably subject to change. I can only imagine how much their unlimited storage was abused :)

Why do they even charge for cloud storage? The clouds in the sky are free and created by nature, who are they to charge people to store data in them?

Boils my wee!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Oh dear, wee came out, funniest thing I've seen in years seeing those two words together in one sentence, thank you :D

I signed up to this days before the news came out, and had already shuffled stuff around and started a multi-terabyte upload process. Im not best pleased.

As above, much easier to have a rotation of drives that end up in my drawer at work than faff about a) uploading tb worth of photos with the UK slow upload rates and b) having to redo it when eventually the provider realises there is no money to be made in storing large volumes of data.

I got the same email. My sub ends end of June 2018. I started to look around and as an ex-user of Crashplan Family (which I didn't renew because I switched to Amazon) I thought I'd take a look at them again. Well, waddayaknow, they've stopped their home services.

Currently looking into options that will either back up a mapped network drive, or preferably run on my Synology NAS, and not break the bank for about 6TB; unlimited would be nice. An recommendations?

I'm happy saving my data on my private physical drives which are also secure and not floating around online somewhere.
Although I do understand the convenience it is for some who need access to the info all the time.
