Recently I've been getting into more ambient style music. I've been listening to the Ghosts album by Nine Inch Nails a lot since release and recently I've got into the Selected Ambient Works by Aphex Twin. I don't know a lot about this sort of music so i thought I'd ask on here.

Can anyone else recommend me some artists/albums that are along these lines?

Humm not 100% sure of what your going for but give God is an Astronaut a go, iv got the album all is violent all is bright on and thats pretty good (and quiet calmish, which is what i think you mean by NIN and ambient)

I have 65 days of static's latest and really like that. I've heard of Mogwai but never listened to them so I might check them out as well.

Some favourites:

Robert Rich & B. Lustmord - Stalker
Moby - Hotel: Ambient
Brian Eno - Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks
Alio Die - Suspended Feathers
Steve Roach - Dreamtime Return

No idea what that NiN album is like, but I've got Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works 95-92. Based on that, Four Tet is worth a try - especially the first two albums, Pause and Rounds. Future Sounds of London are great - Lifeforms is amazing, and I like ISDN too.

If you like Mogwai (who are a bit more post-rock-ish), I would also suggest Godspeed You Black Emperor. Slightly less rocky, but generally better.

Good thread, been listening to Drone ZOne ambient interent radio station on itunes and noted down some artists.

Dark Room
ISOL
As Lonely As Dave Bowman
Lloop
OOphis
Pueblo Bonitor (?)
Tau Ceti
Orb
EvilJon
Beatsystem
Electric Skychurch
Coppe
Tom Vedvik

Well I've been listening to Sigur Ros, Four Tet and God is an Astronaut today and really like them, thanks for the recommendations everyone :)

Mogwai are easily better than Godspeed!
