I was thinking of getting something like this for my home cinema! Does anyone else use something like this? Is it distracting or do you always have it on?

Cheers :)

I have the new camera one. Like all things it can be massively tuned so I don’t go close to the full saturation colours etc as that distracting. Find it best with horror movies as it’s kinda fun seeing flash lights carry on off screen. Best thing with it is the likes of Chernobyl and stuff like that.

I've got a Hue Gradient strip on my TV to do this, and Hue are far ahead of the game then the other 'clones' because they work off the HDMI feed and actually have an app that is solid. Hue isn't cheap though and thats why most folks look for a lower price option.

I haven't watched OP's video but I assume Govee still use that clown video camera on top of the screen to 'analyse' what is being displayed and then match the multi segmented LED strip to that. I've seen Govee's previous versions of this system and they're shockingly crap in essence. They're trying a cheaper way of mimicking Hue's Gradient strip by not using a HDMI box and it doesn't work too well. Having said that, there's always room for product revisions so I don't know how their hardware does things presently.

As for gradient lighting - it ALWAYS looks distracting on online videos because folks are always showing off films that heavily emphasise gradient colouring. In real life use the effect can be quite subtle and it does enhance things, it just depends on what content you're watching. I have my Hue Intensity settings on Medium so that the transitions between colour changes aren't instant and therefore jarring. Cartoons like say SpiderMan Into the Verse or whatever it is look incredible.

I'd agree with what was mentioned above - Hyperion is the best I've seen (a year ago when I researching).

I’ve the govee v1 setup and I like it, did tune the vibrancy and brightness down a little from the defaults. My tvs in a media wall recess (about an inch gap around the tv) so the lighting is contained to just around the tv.

If the tv was just out in the open and the light spread out far that I could see being more of an issue.

I wouldn't want it for movies/TV, but I love having it on my monitor for gaming.

I went through several different options before finally settling on Hue Play Bars - I wrote a thread on my experiences here:

TL;DR; stick with Hue - it might be expensive, but it's the only one which actually works properly. Unfortunately you need the additional HDMI box if you want to use it for TV content (not needed if running from a PC with the sync app installed).

I'm pondering picking up the monitor strip, as that has 7 zones rather than the 3 I have with my current playbar setup, and it's a lot less bulky to stick to the back of the monitor!
