This show is going to be awesome. Anyone else looking forward to it? I've been waiting for ages for someone to do a zombie TV show, and it looks like this is gonna be perfect. It's being headed by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist), which is definitely a good sign.

Bring on October!

Just going through castings so far and not sure I'm entirely sold on Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes. Aaron Eckhart would look good in the role but frankly would be too expensive, too well known and most likely not even interested in doing TV and this project. Someone like Kenneth Mitchell from Jericho would look quite good in the role and possibly even Peter Krause although might be a little too old for this role.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how Andrew Lincoln does.

There was a rumour earlier in the year that Mark Pellegrino (aka Jacob from Lost) might play Rick Grimes - I think he would have done a really good job.

This after all is about a rather niche comic book so I can't imagine it's exactly a high budget show and unfortunately I'm expecting it to having to fight for its existence within the first season.

I'm probably just being optimistic, but I actually expect this to do really well.

AMC have taken Breaking Bad through to series 3 so far, and I expect The Walking Dead will have a larger target audience. There are a lot of people that enjoy zombie stuff, and the popularity of things like Left 4 Dead should help.

On top of that, for most shows on the air there are usually 5 or 6 similar ones to contend with, and the ones with the lowest viewing figures get cancelled. But how many zombie shows are broadcasting right now? None. (Has there even been one before?)

All of this, plus the quality of the source material, Darabont writing/directing, the high quality production, and the good cast announced so far - I'd say it's got a pretty good chance of doing well.

FX in the UK to show the Walking Dead from October. One of the finest graphic novels/series I have read in a long while :)

That's good news - No huge wait for UK viewers, and sounds like they want to market it right:

"The Walking Dead will premiere ahead of the third season launch of vampire hit, True Blood and will be heavily supported off-air by a marketing and PR campaign."

New promo released:

Not long to go now.. I really do think this is going to be very successful.

Who wouldn't want to watch a zombie TV show?

Seems fair enough to me, no different to talking about the novel of The Hobbit when the movie comes along. Dont see that discussing the novels of something is an issue, just the tv/film versions, the difference between (as I mentioned earlier) discussing the entity rather than the content.

Discussion of the graphic novels should be kept to a different thread IMO.

Otherwise it would just ruin it for those only following the TV show.

Reviews/ratings/etc have all been extremely positive - which is great news for the chances of it getting renewed.

Problem these days as so many good tv series get cancelled regardless of how good they are, all down to ratings in the US unfortunately.

AMC is one of the better networks for the show to be on though - they're more about quality (of the show) rather than quantity (of viewers).

Unlike, say.. Fox, who cancel everything.

Hardly suprising given how good the show is, but it's now official:

Biggest Global Original Series Debut on Fox International Channels

(New York, NY – November 8, 2010) AMC announced today the renewal of “The Walking Dead” for a 13-episode second season. Since debuting Sunday, October 31, “The Walking Dead” has broken ratings records, with the series reaching more Adults 18-49 than any other show in the history of cable television.

Today’s announcement also includes Fox International Channels’ (FIC) global renewal for a second season, following record-breaking premiere ratings in 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and The Middle East. “The Walking Dead” was the highest-rated original series premiere ever to air on FIC simultaneously worldwide.

“The ‘Dead’ has spread!” said Charlie Collier, President, AMC. “No other cable series has ever attracted as many Adults 18-49 as ‘The Walking Dead.’ This reaffirms viewers’ hunger for premium television on basic cable. We are so proud to be bringing back ‘The Walking Dead’ again, across the globe.”

I hate that about American shows, the mini trailers for the next show and the re-cap at the begining of the next show.

The recaps at the start are fine... no harm in that.

But the previews at the end are ridiculous. If I want to know what happens next week, I'll watch the episode next week!

** POSSIBLE SPOILERS **

Yep, maybe the saw wasn't able to cut through the hand cuffs..

Time also probably played a big factor - The zombies were just about to bust through the door, so he needed the quickest way to get free.

Better to lose your hand and escape, rather than keep your hand but get munched on by the zombies.
