I've heard a little bit about the 32nm, but nothing really recent? Is there a set date for any 32nm AMD stuff coming out?

And I know they'll be realeasing a 6 core, but I heard a rumour about an 8 core aswell?

Are they going to be jumping on the HT train? (Obviously not called HT, probably go for 3 threads per core or the like so they can't get done for copyright).
 
There are rumors of them jumping to 22nm straight off, but i'm not so sure. Either way they aren't using TSMC, they're contracting The Foundry Company.

The 6 Core is confirmed for AM3, it's codenamed 'Thuban'. Not heard about the oct-core.

Maybe, maybe not. The performance difference is negligible anyway depending on the actual task. Hyper Threading existed way before Intel decided to use it, i don't see how they could get done for copyright.
 
Well I'm on AM3 at the moment with a 965 @ 3.8ghz, the only way I'd upgrade was if the 6 core was capable of overclocking over 4ghz and had more cache.

The 965 is perfectly fast enough for me, I just want to join the 4ghz club. :(
 
AMD won't be switching to 32nm until early 2011(they hope). They probably could deliver 32nm Phenom II at some stage in 2010 but it wouldn't make too much sense as they have a new completely new architecture coming soon after it.

Yes, TSMC currenty do their GPU's, but AMD will probably switch some of that over to GF, but maybe not until the next generation.

Ahh, I thought they'd be moving to 32nm much sooner than that.

I shall just wait and see, if there is a significant gain to be made by moving from a 965 to a six/oct core then I'll do it. :P
 
Can someone tell what the difference between Thuban and Bulldozer will be? Is Thuban just a six-core for AM3 with 45nm and Bulldozer being on a completely different socket with 32nm and 8 cores or what?
 
Thuban is a 6 core Phenom 2, Bulldozer is the name of the new architecture, which covers different chips and what will probably be quad and octo cores, eventually 16 cores, and maybe some dual and 6 cores aswell, we'll have to see how it shapes up.

Bulldozer is a HUGE leap forward in Interger performance for AMD< interger being the area Intel have been strongest in for, well decades. Thuban will likely not offer a huge benefit to anyone, much like Intel's 6 core, 99% of home users don't need it and won't need that much power for a couple years, games included. By which point both companies will have better cpu's out, much much better cpu's out.

I think I'll probably wait for Bulldozer then! I don't really stress my 965 at the moment, occasionally I wish it was faster but not often. It'll probably be a better idea to get a higher spec graphics setup first, then transfer that over to to Bulldozer build.

I'd love to see how high this 6 core will clock though, I'm guessing it'll be a 965 125w qwith two extra cores tagged on?

I would really love to see AMD releasing some 32nm CPU's in 2010. Even if they don't add anything new, the 32nm process will offer them some flexibility until Bulldozer is out.

32nm AMD CPU's in 2010 would be nice since their upcoming six-core chip named Thuban is using 45nm so it probably won`t be that fast clock for clock compared to Intel's six-core Gulftown nor will it overclock quite as well unless your using some kind of extreme cooling.

Personally, I can`t see Thuban reaching a 4GHz overclock that easily.

for those of us who have chips like the Q6600, what should we do?

I mean the Core i7 isn't that much of a great leap is it to justify buying a new mobo, memory and cpu... does anybody know if Intel are going to release faster socket 775 chips? or if they're not, is there a chip anyone would recommend as an upgrade to the Q6600?

Also, I have a friend who has an AM2 chip, running on a mobo that has AM3 support etc... he's currently on a Phenom 9500 i think, 2.2Ghz quad core... from what I know he can upgrade to a 3.4Ghz Quad Core for £145...

I really respect AMD for making AM3 compatible with AM2 (well, to some extent)... all of us who went and bought a Q6600 are more or less stuck :(
 
Could always get a Q9550? not really a hug jump though.

I'd recommend you wait for the next series of Intel or bulldozer to come out personally!
