Im seriously considering going for this cpu and using it with cosair value ram @ 667 (2GB)

Ill be using the PC for games and have a X1900XtX. Will this cpu overclock well without puishing my system too hard?

Will it be good for games - I know conroe is the next big thing expected soon, but the price is so good for these now. I will upgrade to conroe after xmas probably, perhaps this time next year.

Any thoughts on what speed ill be able to get with my system without pushing it too hard?

Under 90 pounds for a retail 3500 is awesome price imo....I used to run the 939 version and it clocked ok, I got 2.6 which was the fx speed at the time.

Hopefully this baby may be as good...

The AM2 Athlon 64 3500+ is £110.95 + VAT or do you mean the AM2 Sempron 3500+ at £65.95 + VAT?

Either way it's amazing how cheap they are compared to even just a year ago. I've learned a lot about AMD 64 with a budget setup recently (Sempron 2800+ E6 stepping for £28, 2 x 512MB Samsung for £35 and £68 for the DFI UT NF3 250Gb :D) which runs at 2.6Ghz. I'll be looking to go for a more powerful AM2 setup soon (once it's all settled and the good kit is known about) and hopefully get it to ~3 Ghz for an incredibly fast yet reasonably cheap system. :)

AM2 3500+ is under 90 in the deals of the week...not the sempron

That's gotta be a pricing error on the This Week Only page?

From the AMD 64 CPU section of OcUK:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-164-AM)
Available This Week Only for just £110.95 +VAT.
Price: £121.95 (£143.29 Including VAT at 17.5%)

From This Week Only page:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-164-AM)
Previously sold for £121.95 +VAT
Price: £74.95 (£88.07 Including VAT at 17.5%)

I'm guessing it shouldn't be so much of a bargain?

I'm shocked - although the AMD CPU prices seem all over the place all of a sudden?!! 3500+ cheaper than S939 3200+ - AM2 3200+ looking really cheap as well with 3000+? Is it a mistake?

It's £47 + VAT lower than the usual price so yeah it looks like a pricing error. It's no wonder it's showing out of stock in the AMD 64 section although it still says in stock on the This Week Only page.

I wonder how many will be getting it at that low price!

i dont think its a price error i think its the right price they have added, as from what ive been told there not selling well :)

and maybe ocuk have a lot in stock to sell at a low price

a lot of ppl seem to be waiting it out atm for Intels new Conroe core. so that dont help amd

Hmm, I think you're right - I've just seen a thread in the amd forums that says some connected with this (something about AMD's share price dropping a lot since talk about Conroe heated up, and because of Intels cheap dual-cores). It would make sence i suppose.

after Intels Conroe is out i can see amds prices going back up again after all the hype of intels conroe,

from all the reviews and benchmarks ive seen of the Conroe, it dont look as good as they say it is :)

wonder why there not selling well? proberbly because everybody has slated them and is drooling 'conroe this, conroe that' but hey, by all means keep it up, all the better. don't suppose you could all get everyone on earth to boycot the X1900XTX so i can get one uber-cheap :D

Well there is the possibility that single core CPUs will drop significantly in price because of Conroe but even so a 3500+ for less than £90, it really is a steal.

I'll be going dual core for sure so it's just a matter of waiting a while for Conroe to be released and then choosing the most overclockable setup my budget will allow. :)
