AMD 3800+ to Core 2 Duo E6320

What exactly could your old setup NOT do that you're expecting this one to achieve?
For quotes like, "Windows feels snappier"
...
What? Windows felt snappy back when I was using my AthlonXp, actually it was snappy even before that...
I refuse to believe that on an X2 3800 @ 2.7ghz with 2gb of decent memory, Windows would be slow or sluggish...
Were people upgrading from low end pentium 2's or something? ;)

Windows feels snappier is a bad example TBH.

The speed boost comes, and can be seen, when gaming and encoding etc...

General windows use will be hard to tell.

And if the pc's were side by side I would argue that no one could tell the difference between the opty 170 and C2D just in windows.

Half the time the people that have done this upgrade from a 170 @ 2.7ghz to C2Dand use this windows usage as an example are just justifying their upgrade.

The fact that I can encode 120minute movies from AVI to DVD in about 40 minutes now, rather than 2 hours with my x2 3800+ @2.5GHz with ConvertXtoDVD makes upgrading to a E6320 well worth it for me.

When you actually use the processing power the speed gains can be seen but saying windows feels snappier is bull IMO.

Yeah I know.

Windows probably feels snappier to them because they just formatted.

well just played the dirt demo, and again no noticeable slowdown in the buggy race as when compared with my x2 4400. The other two races seem super smooth now too.

I starting to not belive so much in this "pfft cpu isnt a bottleneck rubbish" because i have seen first hand the difference it can make, especially in cpu intensive parts of games (lots of characters/lots of cars e.t.c.).

I would say it's worthwhile. Depending on what you do you'll see a slight to noticeable improvement in performance and once overclocked past the same frequency as the X2, it really starts to shine.

The main reason why it's such a good move right now is because not only do you get a performance boost, the overall outlay on components is small as you can still get a decent residual value on your 939 components. My move from Opteron 165 @ 2.8 to E6300 @ 3.2 costed me the best of around £40 max.

You can say that all you want, but i honestly have seen a great improvement. I get no slowdown in oblivion now when there is lots of characters or dirt when there are lots cars e.t.c. In fact so far , oblivion, medieval 2, supreme commander, stalker, CM:Dirt have all seen the minimu fps jump up by about 10-20fps. Why would i bother lying about a subject like this? My gaming experience at maximum details e.t.c. has increased tenfold. :)
