AMD 3800 X2

No I dont have a thermal probe afaik, Im too amateur for that unfortunately, besides, I wouldnt be able to touch the cpu to find out, as the heatsink would be in the way :D

The temperature was taken from S&M torture test itself (monitoring tab)

Nope, my ram will not do 260Mhz, no matter the timings or voltage.
With my CPU already at 1.59V I dont feel like pushing that more than 2.6Ghz anyway, its reaching close to 90 degrees c like that when 100% stress tested, and I dont want it any hotter!
RAM is currently running with the 333Mhz Divider (approximately 218Mhz) at 2.8V 5-2-3 CAS 2.
Am memtesting now. Shame my CPU wont clock further, I know that RAM is stable at 240Mhz with CAS2.5 at those timings!

Obvious question though would be what gives better performance:
  • CPU @ 2600Mhz, RAM at ~220Mhz 5-2-3 CAS2
  • CPU @ 2500Mhz, RAM at 250Mhz 5-2-3 @ CAS 2.5 (1:1 with FSB)

Wanted to ask which is worth more, that extra 100Mhz CPU and tighter timings, or 100Mhz off CPU, slacker timings, but 30MHz extra on the RAM...or is there no decent answer, aside from it's machine specific and I'd have to test this myself (IE 3DMark03/06 Scores)?

Definetely 2.6Ghz with tighter timings, but I wouldn't run that if 90C really is what you're getting!!

That G.Skill ZX is a great OCer but doesn't work well with ASUS mobos it seems. Most people achieved best resrults with DFI nForce chipset.

UCCC chips are rated @ 2.5/3/3/6 even at stock, my HS won't do anything lower than that no matter what, at least you are able to run it at CAS 2. Are you running 1T??

Also one thing I noticed is that UCCC doesn't like voltage AT ALL. I achieved better results with 2.65V. Not sure about yours though.

Steve256 what temps do you get at 1.4 with your freezer pro?

At the moment it's sitting @ 48C, and that's with dual F@H running in the back ground + downloading + music playing. The max I've seen was 49C haven't seen 50 yet.

Just downloaded core temp and wow core 0 reported 49-50 and core 1 54-55!!

Obviously ASUS ProbeII only reports the lowest temp then.

What temps are u getting??

Highest iv had so far is 59, thats at 2750 with 1.4v.

Dont understand why its so high! its still at stock volts near enough.

At 2600 with 1.26v temps still go into the low 50s

Aye, I only run 1T, I've gone back to 1:1 240Mhz/FSB for now though, as Im not going to get time to experiment tonight, not to mention, I know 2.4Ghz runs fine, and I dont have infinite patience, plus I may well be hitting a heat/voltage barrier right now, and as I have no cooler beyond stock, its too much of a hassle to work out which :D

I have my 3800+ at 2.6GHz with stock volts. Temps at full load are 50C with my Freezer 64 Pro.

I tried to go higher but became unstable at 2.7GHz w/ 1.45v. I don't think my PSU will allow me to go any higher because it's not great. This was quite a while ago so I hope I remembered it correctly.

If I did get a different heatsink to replace the Stock one, which HSF combos are considered the best right now? Freezer64 Pro seems well considered, but what others are worth looking at, are any of the other Artic Cooling HSF like the Alpine 64 worth looking at, or is the Freezer64 much better?
Even if it doesnt get me a higher overclock, it would hopefully still be quieter/cooler than the stock one :D

I'd consider the Freezer 64 pro the best bang for the buck, others like Scythe Ninja and Sunbeam Tuniq Tower also have good reputations on the forum.

i have 2 gig of corsair value ram and i was wondering if i would be able to get 2.8ghz as my curent 3700 sits at 2.8 all day long, an d to be quite honest with you i would like to see some sort of performance increase for the money i have just paid.

My Corsair Value ram can't go past 220Mhz without falling over. Hence I have to use an asynch setting, which never seem to be as stable as 1:1 in my experience. With better ram I'd be confident of getting beyond 2700Mhz quite easily.

A vote for the Freezer Pro here too. It does the job pretty well and it's cheap! Can't compare the noise levels to the stock cooler, as I never used it but I don't it's particularly noisy even at 2,200 RPM though tbh.
