Hi all,
I have an acer GN245HQ 3D monitor @120Hz and Nvidia 3d Glasses (which came with the monitor) it worked great with my nvidia GTX 560 card but I cant seem to get the 3d to work with my new XFX R9 270X card, are the monitor and glasses not compatible with the XFX R9 270X ? or am I doing something wrong

system spec :- AMD FX 6300 6core @ 4.62
16 gig of ram, windows 8.1 pro 64bit, 1tb hdd.

I think you need to use DP or HDMI 1.4a for it to work on AMD. nVidia use DL-DVI only.

Edit:

Just looked at the spec of your monitor and it does have HDMI 1.4, which is fine for 720P 3D gaming :)

You need to use Tridef (And I'm only assuming Tridef works with the Nvidia glasses).

You can use DVI with AMD for 3D.

Tbh, I'd never move to an AMD GPU from an Nvidia GPU when you're using an Nvidia 3D set up. Tridef might not even work with that monitor.

AMD's 3D's a bit of a mess, I struggle to even call it AMD's 3D, as it's not really. It's basically all tridef and just use generic 120 stereo frame sequential. I have no idea why people start talking about HD3D.

When I ran 3D on a 7970, it was literally just use Tridef, use generic 120HZ frame sequential. Sorted.

Well AMD themselves claimed 3D was dead, so I guess that is why it needs third party programs like tri-def for it to work.

I myself barely use 3D to be honest. Personally I find 120Hz and forcing SuperSampling much more appealing.

Some games looks good in 3D, but for actualy gaming under 3D such as FPS, I just find it more of an distraction than enjoyment :p

Driving and sim type games thought would may be good.

Yer, it seems to be a bit of a marmite thing with 3D. I am a big fan of it but others can't stand it.

I'm a big fan of it, but it depends on the game. On some games it truly adds depth and realism to it, skyrim being a good example, but on others it starts to hurt my eyes due to the fast paced movement needed on the game (such as BF games).

Don't think the monitor and glasses are compatible with anything other than Nvidia, there are only a few 3d Vision monitors compatible with Tridef afaik.

Thanks for all the helpful reply's guys, I guess I have to choose what gfx card I use, either I go back to my GTX 560 (which wont do surround screen) or I stick with my XFX R9 270X, I must say though I have been playing titanfall recently on my single 120hz monitor (I have two Dell's 17" monitors each side of my acer which I wanted for sim racing but the res on my acer is reduced to 1280x1024 on the acer to match the dells which is a bit of a bummer) with the XFX and it looks and plays amazing :) so I might just stay with the XFX.
@Marine-RX179 how do I force supersampling?
I was also toying with changing my acer to a super wide screen monitor something like http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-063-AS&groupid=17&catid=1120
for sim racing but would I miss the 120hz and would all other games support that resolution?
