Under The Stairs!
Couldn't get junior out of Currys the other week because he found a comfy leather sofa, some 3D glasses and decided he was planning in watching the rest of Monsters V Aliens(he even pulled the table closer to put his feet up and asked a saleswoman where's the popcorn!!!:o I kid you not!).

After about 10 minutes and the promise of a new toy, I got him out.

Anyway he's been nipping my head about getting a 3D TV but the ball and chain said no chance, so that's the end of that!

Anyway, saw a very cheap 3D LG 23" led monitor and glasses including tridef software, next best thing really, and everyone's happy, or that's the plan anyway.

What I'd like to know is:

Do games using 3D get locked to 30fps using AMD 69xx cards?

Can anyone confirm if the new 12.1 driver does indeed enable CrossFire with AMD3D(as I heard before that it didn't work with 3D)?

I must point out that, yes Nvidia is better at 3D, but there is no chance I'm paying out for the tech(the monitor costs about the same as Nvidia's 3D glasses) as I'm not really interested in it, it's more for junior, who can break as many Cinema 3D glasses as he likes, there's loads of them in the drawer.

I'm just enquiring if it's going to cause me more grief than I need from junior as no doubt he will want to play games with it too.

My personal opinion is its a gimmick and he will probably get bored after a couple of movies and the odd game. Its cool for some games but mostly just an extra layer of hassle IMO and the availability of 3D movies is rather low.

Maybe spend a small part of that money on a family day out for the IMAX 3D experience or something :S (although that probably won't shut him up).

Get him to work for it. Don't spoil him!

3D monitors runs at 120hz (60hz per eye) so no, it doesn't get locked to 30fps.

Deffo get him to work for it :D

If you want really good 3D, then gbet the Samsun S23A700D for £300.

Includes 3D glasses and all the 3D conversion is done in the monitor so no need to worry about the crappy tridef rubbish

(although that probably won't shut him up)

Nothing does, he is constant!

He's unknowingly making up for when when he gets older when it will probably go full circle!:(

@Orcvader and Cleeecooo, He will work for it, I was brought up that way, so will he.

The description states 60Hz, that's why I'm curious about the 30fps, also read somewhere that AMD's new driver has options for 30MHz 3D, whether that's for movies or not I don't have a clue.

The place with the purple shirts have a similar spec TV and it states 72Hz.

Checked LG's site and nothing about rated Hz:

http://www.lg.com/us/computer-products/monitors/LG-led-monitor-D2342P-PN.jsp

It is ludicrously cheap though, £150 delivered with free AC Brotherhood game thrown in!
