AMD 4170 for gaming

I might look at selling up my AMD parts like suggested and moving over to intel. but does intel preform better in other games as well? such as crysis and CoD for example.

also if i do go about selling it any suggestions where to sell it in the UK?

Why don't you just make sure your rig works first??

On tech forums, there is a tendency to solve problems by throwing hardware at them first.

I know people with slower CPUs and GPUs than you,not having problems in WoW on the settings you have described.

There are a lot of WoW players out there who don't have expensive hardware. Even that chap I know with the overclocked FX6300,is using an HD5850 1GB at 1920X1080.

Edit!!

What case are you using?

What previous graphics card were you using?

1.)Run both of your 4GB RAM sticks in dual channel.
2.)Update your BIOS to the latest one,on the Gigabyte website.
3.)Make sure you have some good airflow in your case.
4.)Your CPU is running too hot. If improving the airflow does not help,re-attach the cooler with some better thermal compound.
5.)Monitor the clockspeed of your CPU when running a game. If it goes under 4.2GHZ,you have an issue.
6.)If there is an issue, see if blowing some air on the VRM,changes anything.

im currently using a Casecom KM-6988 Black Mid Tower Case and my Previouse graphics card was a GTX460

i thought i was running 2 x 4GB RAM sticks, its 2 x 2GB sticks, ill still try this see what happens.
my BIOS is upto date.
the side of my case is currently off so to try and cool it down.
ill try re-applying some thermal compound on sunday if other stuff doesnt work.
is there a way to keep track of CPU clock speeds?
and what is VRM?

There are a few utilities which you can use. The first part of this guide should help:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...mperatures-game-benchmark-screen-display.html

The VRM is the Voltage Regulation Module:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage_regulator_module

This is what they look like on a motherboard:

Sometimes they can get very hot.

Looking at the case,I would be inclined to make sure you have three fans running:

One inlet at the front, one outlet at the back and another at the top.

Edit!!

Are you using any add-ons with WoW too??

last raid i was using ElvUI, but i havnt raided with no addons's as of yet

Is that under a load??

Are you running the RAM in dual channel now??

Regarding the drivers, have you made sure the previous Nvidia ones have been fully removed??

yeh that was why playing WoW, and yeh iv moved over to dual channel now, but wont be able to see if it improves untill tonight, and yeh iv refromated my PC about 2 weeks ago so all old drivers were removed

People that are telling you to sell up your AMD equipment and move to intel should stop talking now. For gaming the CPU that you have is more than capable to pulling out the FPS.

Your tempreature is a bit worrying though and it actually sounds like your CPU might be throttling..

Reset your heatsink reapply new thermal past make sure the heatsink is sitting flush bring thoese temps down

I double checked and on my laptop I am using the ultra preset with shadows, sunshafts and SSAO turned down to high, and AF dropped from 16x to 8x. The fact you cannot run with the "good" preset indicated to me the is something wrong with your system as your HD7950 should destroy my HD6970m (which is on par with a HD6850) and although my SB based 2C4T mobile i5 is no doubt better than a FX4170 it isn't amazingly better.

Your not running a silly level of AA are you? as presets don't alter that.

seems seem to have been slightlu better tonight, ill try resetting my CPU cooler when im off work on tuesday.

although every thing seems to be running fine looking at the clock speeds and such, i did have a problem a few months back where i was getting power surges due to a faulty PSU could this have damaged the CPU although it is not showing any thing?

my system used to keep wow ultra settings for all but shadows fine even with my old 9800GTX+ it rarely dropped below 50, my i5-750, and the 4170 shoulde be different enough to drop to 19fps and your gpu beats the pants of my old 9800 so your results do seem strange.

I have a FX6300 at 4ghz and a 6770 and have no probs running WOW on ultra settings at 1080

iv sent in a request to return the processer back to ****** where i got it from, incase the surges i had before have damaged it and are not showing up
