if he wants to build a system using AM2 then it's up to him. I had god know's how many people telling me a few months back to abandon AM2 & go onto C2D, I went my way with AM2, and the system does what I want, just becasue Intel have the upper hand atm everyone is saying to drop AMD. If you want to use AM2 for the 5000, then my advice will be go for it.

Why? Its slower and its more expensive?

There are no reasons to buy AMD, the same as Intel before C2D

that is a well stated fact milk

at the end off the day, the difference in AMD and intel isn't worth debating, realistically it's not going to make any difference to this guys general tasks. the conroe is about 10%-15% faster and about 60%-70% hype.

of course building a new system conroe would be slightly better, but u won't exactly be disatisfied with AMD. i think i will stick with AMD until intel stop the american hyp thing, it's actualy very anoying hearing "Core 2. Do more." when it does not do anymore than the AMD X2.

i recently bought a x2 4400+ for a good price before they went, i can't fault it. there a british company (hence no hyp ads), your not following a trend and it isn't exactly an old technology processor.

There is no sence in building a AM2 system, conroe is cheaper and performs better, but in the end its upto the buyer, my mate went the AM2 route despite my advice and he regrets it ever since.

I can't see why you can spend money on a worse product when building from new? So what the difference may be small, but the overclocking/power usage/heat/performace/cost all are stacked against AMD at the moment.

Upgrading 939 may be worth it, but as the stock is decreasing and prices going up soon it won't be worth it.
