I'm building a new media PC and was wondering which processor to choose. The AMD 5200 or the 5400. The price is pretty close so was just wondering what the difference was.
I'm going to use a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H and might do a little overclocking if the processor allows.

If you want a energy efficient one then you really can't go wrong with a 4850e. Unfortunately, even though they have been out for a couple of months now OCUK still has'nt bothered to get them in. They are a 2.5Ghz dual core 45w version with 2x512 L2 cache and cost £47-50.

I also say go for the 790GX.

It will give full upgrade path to Phenom II (at least the early models for it) which looks to be good. 790GX +SB750 will allow you to overclock the Phenom quite a bit.

As for the processor, why no0t try to find the 5000+ Black edition? It can be overclocked to 3GHz without trouble apparently. If not that then go for the 45W ones.

Thanks for the advice guys. Budget is pretty tight so the gigabyte board and a cheap AMD chip at around £120 (in Guernsey so no VAT WOOHOO!) is an ideal solution.
