Hi, i've built a few of my own pc's but never overclocked one. I'm tempted by the offer on the 64 3700 chips, which even in stock settings would blow my current 2600 away. Given its clocking abilities i may aswell do it.

Would this set up work:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego
Abit KN8 SLi nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-088-AB)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler
Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3
NEC ND3550 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter
Antec Sonata II Piano Black Quiet Case - 450W

The case will probably need a few fans, but:
will the PSU be powerful enough?
will the thing actually work?
are any of the above overkill for the rest of the system?
will it be cool enough if overclocked?

Cheers for any thoughts you have, its been a while since i played with this kind of stuff, so i'm well rusty.

1.yes the psu would be poweful enough...antec are quite reliable.
2.yes the thing will we work if u change the ram to ddr1.
3.theres no overkill at the moment but i would advise going for dual core as it will be more futureproof.
4.the cpu cooler willl be fine but the airflow of the entire case is not amazing. one 120mm exhaust and 120mm intake which is not really an intake because it is stuck on the hdd rack. also you will not be able to use the spu cooling duct as it will not fit if you install the arctic cooling 64 pro.

What cases would be better to provide the correct cooling if i overclock it?

Most Lian Li cases have pretty good cooling and they are good looking cases too. However I believe it is the Akasa Eclipse that has the best cooling - at least in its price range.

I dont believe there will be any overheating.I have one clocked to 2.75 and it is not even anywhere near 35 degrees when at doing seti and the like. Just build and be happy..
