AMD 7970 overclock and game crashes

I have read it, thoroughly. I did what the guide suggested up to the point I crashed, and crashed, and crashed, and got a bit annoyed. I thought I'd give your max overclock a bash and it seems to have paid off, and saved me a good chunk of time.

I'm leaving it as it is for the time being, I'm happy where it's at.

Now I'm working on the memory voltages as the Valley score has gone down with the extra 25MHz I bumped it up by.

Good stuff.

Alright, last post.

Memory is at 1600Mhz at 1.606v and I'm hitting 72 degrees.

Is there a standard max temp I should look out for, obviously well below thermal shutdown, before I stop overclocking, or just welly the **** out of it until crash time?

And thanks all for your help, I couldn't have done it without you.

You can only monitor memory temp if you download and install HwInfo afaik. You can then set it up to appear on afterburners on screen display. The vram is generally the coolest part of the card so it shouldn't be a problem.

Bugger, I thought I had it.

Path of Exile crashes my PC at the login screen.

Back to the drawing board...

Hahahahaha.

I had typod in my notepad file, core voltage was written in as 1125 instead of 1225.

Christ on a bike.

PoE works (for now).

I was thinking about getting another 7970, but I only have one monitor running 1920x1200, so I think getting another would be complete overkill.

Could be wrong though, I doubt I'll be playing Last Light on max setting any time soon.

Unless you have a 120hz screen then yes it most likely will be.

You have to remember, even if your overclock runs and completes past the last point of your crash, you still could be not stable, you have to test more games, if you can run crysis maxed out @99% gpu for more than 40 minutes consider yourself stable.
just cause you pass benchmarks dont think for a second your stable. ;)
