amd 7990 temperature

Hi guys,

My new amd 7990 has been reaching temps of 91c under load after a few hours of playing. Is this too hot and will ot damage my card, I've ordered some more side pamel fans.

Thanks

Out of interest what case do you have and also what is your case fan setup like?

I have a corsair 600t case and same spec as you more or less

Apart from having i7 2600k oc to 4.5ghz sorry

Interesting my card never goes above 75 degrees and the fans never go near 100%.

As suggested previously my advice would be to make sure vsync is on.

My fan setup is:

2 x Corsair High Static/Pressure 120mm fans on front intake
2 x Bitfenix Spectre Pro 120mm fans on bottom intake
1 x Corsair Quiet Edition 140mm fan top intake

1 x Corsair Quiet Edition 140mm fan top exhaust
1 x Corsair Quiet Edition 140mm fan rear exhaust

Also have you got the latest drivers? The latest 13.11 Beta drives seem to be dropping peoples temps by 2-3 degrees.

Vsync helps now, while 60fps is not your max FPS, but once you need the card to go 100%, you're screwd again.

Follow the suggestions from other people to fix the temps.

Or if people were worried about things like input lag, they could always usage frame rate limiter instead of vsync. MSI Afterburner has frame rate limiter built-in.

cold air in the front, hot air out the back, mine has two intake fans one above the other, the upper one shoots directly at the cooler, the lower one shoots underneath the card...keep all the wiring out of the way and have the intake fans close to the MOBO/ CARD, my fans aren't on the case front, they're recessed inside about 3''....

my pc is freezing cold all the time, even in the summer, the fans never go above level 2, yea' everything else is pretty Krap :D:D but the cooling is perfect ;)

I use MSI Afterburner. First thing, Disable ULPS. I have a slightly more aggressive fan profile:

.

I'm using same fan profile, getting around max 78C at 60% fan speed. Case is cm690, so it's pretty crappy, (old revisions), but I do have a side fan pulling air out as you suggested
I'm not too happy with 60% fan speed, but it's just about bare-able.

ulps off and at 1150mv stable.
is 60% fan speed and above unbearable, or close to being unbearable?
at default fan profile it seems to cap out at around 44-45% fan speed.

your temperatures look about ok, but in the future i'd get a much newer pc case and build your rig from scratch....move your Drive well away from the lower front of the pc case.

but for discussions like this you are always best uploading photos of the inside, then i can see what's going on straight away.

As a note to the OP(and anyone else who googles it or whatever).

I to had my share of problems with my 7990 at 91-92 degrees. Overheating the case and crashing the pc.Followed the advice on the forums with exhausts, fan profile etc and now after 2 hours of crysis i have max temps of 76....

So basically just follow the advice here and it will work out fine:)
