im building a pc soon but im not too sure if i should wait a little longer and get the new amd 8000 series gpu, does anyone know when its released?

Rumours are all over the place.
But given we're on the same 28nm process, progression won't be huge anyway.
So you'd be pretty safe getting a current 7XXX GPU.

The 8xxx series is ready, taped out and done. Would not be surprised if boards are manufactured already. The lack of appearance is a business decision rather than production

Edit: Some need for the extra oomph would be good too. I know some run huge Eyefinity resolutions etc but for 99% of us, the games just aren't worth it IMO

So, I assume you were also pegging at 30% gains, but I called it not a huge jump, and you called it a decent jump :p?
Decent progression would be at least 50% for my standards, and a huge jump would be 90%.

A 30% jump would make it very attractive to me as it would mean a 60-70% jump over my gtx480. Current cards only offer around 35% increase so a lot of money for not such a big gain.

I doubt it's any more than 40% though, unless you want to pay silly money for a Titan (I don't like dual gpu's).

Amazing how well the 480 has stood up really. It's 3 years old and still there is nothing that really kills it.

But I do find myself needing a little more grunt with some of the recent games. Will wait until I can buy something that is at least 60% faster and around the £250 mark though.

A 7970 ghz edition would probably be a 80-90% improvement on the latest drivers over your 480.
