Looking to get a new GPU for mostly VR and I was going to go with 5070TI, but it's crazy £900+ prices don't seem like a good idea.

Only thing not being 100% on AMD is I read it's not as supported in VR as NVIDIA over wireless using virtual desktop.

Using my RTX 2070 in VR been very good with no real issues other than it's lack in performance.

Hi, afaik VD supports AMD. I'm considering a 9070 too because of nvidia prices, I think 1 thing to be aware of with AMD is in the past their drivers when a card releases do not work that well with VR but they fix things eventually, so it's possibly the 9070 might not be great with VR initially.

Yea that is my worry as I think for the 7 series it took a while to fix?

i think they've seen the Nvidia issues, and i suspect they are working closely with Valve on the deckard so would hope they would have it sorted for VR..

either card AMD or Nvidia will be fine

it all depends what your expectations are, I've now got a 5080 with a Quest 3 so i can run higher resolution in AMS2 and Elite Dangerous etc

Well honestly I was using 6600K cpu with the 2070 until recently I could upgrade to 7600x, 64GB ram (for DCS) so after playing on low to medium settings for long time anything above that would be nice .

I do have ASUS RT-AX56U WiFi 6 router just for my VR streaming which helps.

With the issues with the 7 series was VR broken on release of the card or was a later patch that messed it up?

Thank you.

A 9070 XT might be good in VR. I'd have liked to have found out, tried buying one, had several browsers open on several sites, tried OC, all sold out or the site was error'ing, so looked on competitors sites 1 of which gave the number of people on the page presumably F5'ing like crazy like I was, there were iirc 1400 people refreshing the page just for 1 brand of 9070, more than when I was after a 5000 series gpu! so yeh a 9070 might be ok...if you can buy 1. i'm not paying 100's over MSRP because that is an option.

Makes me glad I got that 4090FE some time ago. No problems getting one (apart from costing an arm and a leg), plus it's performance is still very competitive with the 5090 (maybe even more reliable due to the 50 series issues).

I regret selling my 4090 just before Christmas, why didn't you try to dissuade me from selling it Ravenger :D

I don't think anyone thought the 50 series launch would be as bad as it was! Normally selling your 4090 would have been sensible.

I am really sympathetic of anyone who is trying to get hold of a reasonably priced reasonably decent graphics card now.

I went through all the hassle of part alerts and jumping on websites, refreshing etc. for the 30 series cards, and it was incredibly stressful.

Info from Reddit & Discord about a 9070 XT used for VR :

"
I’m on a 5800x with 9070xt coming from a 6800xt VR has massively improved on AMD from the 6000 series. On metro awakening I can now use godmode resolution and 120 fps with Spacewarp active on Virtual Desktop. I’ve never heard the menu commentate with “Holy ****” when going to 120 fps"

"Tried six days in fallujah ( UEVR mod ) as well and that went from unplayable mess to perfectly playable on the 9070xt"

"did a bit of VR in the 9070XT, pretty good performance, ultra with a bit of godlike with the right games imo. av1 and h264 work to max VD specs but hevc is still broken af, now in a different way"

"9070xt running godlike 120fps blade and sorcery max settings"

"Still doing some tuning but on a Quest 3 in MSFS 2024, using wireless Virtual Desktop, I was able to set Godlike mode and achieve 90FPS at many airports. Innsbruck airport with photogrammetry on knocked me down to 65’ish FPS. This was without any of the AMD voodoo turned on, simply TAA mode for anti-aliasing and the same recommended settings that VR Flight SIM Guy on YouTube recommends I still have a few more knobs to turn and also tryout Half-Life Alyx, but so far this is a sizable uplift from my 7900GRE. Powercolor 9070XT OC Hellhound

No driver issues by the sound of it.
