Hi,

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.40GHz (Socket AM2)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939)

Which is better? The AM2?

the AM2 as it supports DDR2 ram are you buying it for a new upgrade or is it for an exsisting Mobo ?

I want to upgrade, so I can use DDR2 as well. I'm especially wondering about what board I should buy. I have a Hiper 580W psu and a 7900 GTX which I'd like to get more use out of, but I'm thinking of upping the rest.. I don't want those extra's like SLi and things, but I do want a relatively decent board this time, and for AM2. I have a huge case which fits almost every type of board. Do you have a recommendation?

well firstly you have the AM2

or possibly i could pusuade you with the better peforming Core 2 Duo

the core 2 duo does out perform nearly all or the am2 chips and if your thinking of clocking the core 2 duos get some exelent clocks

Hi.

It would be a crime not to buy the second package (Intel, Core 2) in your case. Simply because it would cost a little more yet give you quite a lot more performance.

And like PU7E said, once you decide to overclock the Core 2 Duo will really own the AM2. :)

Here's my suggestion...
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £107.99
  • OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit £59.99
  • Gigabyte GA_965P_S3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £59.99
  • Sub Total : £227.97
  • Shipping : £8.25
  • Vat : £41.34
  • Total : £277.56
Compare CPUs here ;)

core2duo for sure ....... do some research before you part with your money.

and im an AMD fan ....but Intel for now are the best buy!

if your buying a new motherboard, cpu and ram then it would be stupid to go with AMD.

only go with amd if your going to upgrade the cpu in your current setup without having to change the ram or motherboard.

My advice is go with the Ballistix PC5300. Seems to be exactly the same as the PC6400 so you may as well save the cash.

edit: you've already ordered. Nevermind :p
