AMD (939) X2 3800, 4200, 4600

Which of these chips offer the best overclock potential?

Looking at around 2.6-8ghz, not to bothered about volts as long as its under 1.6v.

I would get the 3800, they seem to be clocking nicely from that cpu chart someone made,

Im just waiting until conroe is released and the major amd price cuts appear. Hopefully ocuk will still have stock then

I have seen some good clocks with these, however would it not be easier to get to 2.6 starting from 2.2-4 instead of 2ghz, thats like a 30% o/c.

My X2 4200+ is running passively @2.75ghz which isn't a bad clock imo

Maybe I've just got a good chip though.

Virtually none will get to a reliable 3GHz on air. 2.6 is common, 2.8 is fortunate and 3.0 is extremely rare.

You would prob be better off getting another Opteron (165?) if your after 3Ghz and have something to cool it.

My 4200+ does 2.6 on stock volts and 2.75 on 1.5v

No its one of the old batch, i was dissappointed not to get the new heatpipe cooler, its a 0551, which i think is week 51 last year

My AM2 4800 did 3GHz on air, I suspect pretty much any new fabbed X2 is going to get to 2.8GHz without much bother to be honest if you've got the right board and cooler to go with it.

I need to decide which one though so i can snap one up quick when the drop happens.

which one are you going for ? im stuck on choosing too, i have finally sorted out RAM, Mobo, GPU but not sure what the prices are going to be like on the chips, so not sure what to go for and if its worth spending the extra past a 3800+

i am gonna use DFI mobo, XMS3200 cas 2 (2gb) and X1800XT

Probably the X2 4200 as long as they are around the £160 mark, if not then the 3800.
