AMD 965 C3 CPU idling at 55c

My cpu is idling at around 55c. I have checked the fan/h-sink which is the amd stock one and is seated correctly.

I am using a coolermaster 335. I have one 120mm fan at rear as exhaust. I also have a 120mm zalman at the front as an intake.

Also in the case is an Asus 5770. I am slightly concerned about my corsair 650 which you can feel the heat from. Also the psu fan is angled into the case as opposed to agianst the top of the case as no fan there.

Any ideas?

I'm thinking of putting a better 4 pin exhaust fan at the rear. I am also toying with an Arctic Freezer Pro plus some as5 paste.
 
I have a very similar spec to you, see sig below :p.

I have a corsair H-50 watercooler and mine idles at 29c when 'cool n quiet' is enabled. If its running at 3.4ghz continuously (i.e. disable cool n quiet) I get around 31/2c. On prime95 after an hour it didnt go above 49c. The H50s are really good, but depends on your budget.

I have three intake fans on the case (includes the fan blowing across the radiator as part of the H50) and one exhaust.

I highly doubt the stock heatsink is any good to be honest and that doesnt sound high for it! Just get a good air cooler if tight on budget, plenty around for £20-30. Depends if you will overclock as well

Ues I think a new cpu cooler is in order, not sure if that will fit, its a beast! Looking to improve the exhaust fan form one that came witht he case to:

Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin

May get an arctic freezer pro for the cpu, any thoughts?

May also get a new case but budget a bit tight! Again any ideas?
 
i use titan fenrir matches the corsair h-50 for temps and twenty quidish cheaper :p the h-50 is less noisy though and not as big as the titan

also check the baram and the one gareth has. make sure they fit in your case though :D

do not get the arctic cooling ones as they are about as good as the stock one = fail
 
Just looking at the Fenrir now, anyone got any practical experience of installing the cooler on an Asus M4A79XTD EVO board?

Going to get a rounded ide cable and a scythe s-flex exhaust fan.

Toying with the idea of getting a new case and going from my coolermaster 335 to an Antec 300....
 
I have:

an elite 335 case
a quad phenom chip
2x 120mm case fans (one in one out)
Thermolab baram
Not very tidy cables

I get idle temps of 35 and load of 53.

I dont think you need to swap the case. A decent cpu cooler with good paste should do you fine.

just follow guide simples really . make sure it fits in your case though

I'd say as nice a case as the Coolermaster Elite 335 is for £29.99 inc . . . along with the AMD stock cooler your bound to be getting higher than normal temps (on everything) . . . The obvious solution is to replace the stock AMD HSF with something a bit more meaty, the only problem is even a premium Heatsink will struggle to perform well in a hot case with low airflow. The cooler master case has what I consider to be some design flaws . . .



I'm not a fan of the older style chassis that fits the PSU at the top of the case . . . all the heat rises and gets sucked into the PSU . . . a hot PSU will likey run louder due to the internal fan reacting to the case heat . . . I also believe a hot running PSU will *fail* earlier than a cool running PSU . . . the Coolermaster case doesn't offer than much in the way of airflow, the single 120mm intake fan loses a lot of potential due to restricted airflow . . .

For an extra £12 the Antec 300 does really offer superior airflow, the PSU sits at the coolest part of the case, there is space for two optional 120mm intakes which if used will blast plenty of cool air into the case (positive airflow is good!), there is a large 140mm fan in the roof sucking the air from the system (instead of the PSU), a 120mm rear exhaust and an optional 120mm side panel fan for anyone with a toasty SLI/Crossfire set-up



I stuck a Thermolab Baram in the Antec 300 and the airflow was so good that no CPU fan was needed on an moderately overclocked TripleCore, for the more serious clockers then a 120mm is recommended (or two 120mm).

The bottom line is some cases will cool "everything" inside a PC better than some other cases, the Antec 300 is one suggestion although there are others (the sub £50 chassis market is getting competitive!), in your boots I would get a new case first . . .and if you intend to dabble in some overclocking then a premium heatsink will help out a lot! :cool:
 
Cheers Big Wayne thats a fantastic help (I really appreciate you taking the time, escpecially witht he photo's). I will get that 300 and the baram. the 300 ahs two fans built in and I have 2x12cm fans to stick in the front. Are you using the same motherboard, it looks the same but don't want to assume?

If so how do you setup up the 4 fans with pwn (the 2 supplied case fans and the 2 120cm fans I will fit to the front), would I need a seperate controller? As I recall the MOBO only has 1x4 pin cpu fan, 1x4 pin channel fan, 1x3 pin channel fan and 1x3 pin power fan?

Presumably I wouldn't need a fan on the heatsink at the moment as I'm not overclocking? And if I did I could put a 12cm on the heatsink connected to the cpu 4 pin?
 
You can also add another 120mm fan into the 5.25" bays at the front of the elite 335 if you are feeling cheap but I am sure that wayne is right if you have the cash to spend.

After seeing those diagrams I kind of wish I had got the Antec.

EDIT: Oh I have also added a 92mm fan to the side of my 335.

Yes I think the route forward is Wayne's suggestions. My only concern, apart from the wiring of the fans is my Corsair TX650 psu which apparently doesn't fit the bottom of the Antec 300.

Voltages all normal.

Looking at the Thermolab Baram, Antec 300 plus the following fan:
Akasa AK-FN058 Apache Black Super Silent 120mm

Any recommendations on the fan front, want a quiet scaleable fan.

Also got to work out how to shoehorn my TX 650 in, anyone? Can't stump up for new psu!

I personally think the Antec 300 is a really nice chassis for the money and have no problems recommending it . . . if you want to triple check your chassis options then have a good read of the Case Central subforum to see what the other good sub £50 options are! :)

The Baram is a great heatsink and again for the money is hard to beat . . . if you spend more money on a TRUE or similar "Big Daddy" heatsink the performance "may" be a bit better but the temp difference will be pretty small, the real strength of the Baram compared to other Premium heatsink is it's designed to make the most of limited/low airflow. the fins are spaced a bit wider, heatpipes are staggered etc, this means it performs well when running "passive" or with a low speed/quiet 120mm fan . . .

Your motherboard has a single 4-pin PWM fan header and a few 3-pin regular fan headers, you deffo want a 4-pin PWM fan for the heatsink but there is scope to use an adapter to connect a few 4-pin PWM 120mm fans to the same connector! . . . In my personal set-up I use a 4-pin Akasa AK-FN053 on the Baram, a 3-pin Akasa AK-195-BL 140mm roof fan (connected to the mobos 3-pin case fan header) and a "single" old school Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 acting as intake (this is wired direct to PSU) . . . Both the case fans are quiet "fixed" rpm fans and only the heatsink fan ramps up and down according to load (BIOS set)

If you really trying to avoid spending too much then you could start with the Antec 300, Thermolab Baram and a "single" 120mm fan to cool the heatsink . . . The supplied 120mm Tri-Cool rear case fan can be unscrewed and connected to the case front as an intake . . . The choice of which additional 120mm fans to buy I won't get involved in! :p

I also have no idea why the Corsair 650w wouldn't fit the Antec 300? . . .are they a non-standard design or something? . . . I'm using a Corsair HX520W and that fits fine! :)
 
According to some of the comments on the customer reviews for the case the tx 650 won't seat properly due to a machined lip at the bottom?

If I take the plunge will get al that, leave the rear/top case fans in situ, use my zalman 12cm + another on the front and one for the cooler which I presume I can connect to the 4 pin cpu connector.
 
well ocuk got back to me on the case thread and it does fit the antec 300, so going to get that, the baram with an akasa fn053 and maybe two more of the same fans for the intake using a pwm splitter. Putting the two intakes and rear exhaust on the splitter, the cpu to the cpu 4 pin and the roof fan to the 3 pin.
