Just got an AMD 965 and an this asus mobo

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-373-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1481

The PC works fine and the bios and windows see my cpu as an X4 965. During post i get an error saying CPU is not supported press F1 to continue .

I have updated to latest bios and same thing happens. Its not a big problem becuase i have set the bios to ignore F1 errors and the PC seems to run nice

But i am wondering if something is wrong?

Hey stoke1863,

I can't say I know what is causing that?

Um, I think I had a message like that once when using a LGA775 6MB Wolfdale in a older Intel® G31 express motherboard (along with insane CPU temps showing in BIOS) . . . . but it all got sorted as soon as the board was updated with the latest BIOS! :)

I'm gonna take a quick peek at the ASUS website in a bit because I am not familiar with that exact model!

Cheers Wayne. Its realy not a problem as it works great. My dad his loving his new PC now. Hes upgraded from an amd X2 4200!!

I managed to get a phenom 965 4GB DDR3 Ram and am3 motherboard combo for only a few quiad more an i3 combo would cost.

Hows that for bang for buck!!! Its mainly due the to the price of the Intel mobo's

Hey Hey stoke1863,

Is this your board please?

ASUS M4A78LT-M LE

Where is that?

I can see the PhII X4 945 as listed and that's a 125W TDP if I'm not mistaken?

Yea thats the one. It says up to 95w on the product specs on that site, Hmmm surely if it could only support 95watts my PC wouldnt even boot?

AMD 945 is only 95 watts. Should i RMA this mobo? Only got it today!

Really know nothing about that board or AMD setups (haven't built or used one since A64 X2 days sadly) but is there any BIOS option to undervolt the cpu? This may drop the TDP a bit, find the lowest vcore thats stable (orthos etc..).
Looking at estimates, the 965 drops to 111W @ 1.2v and the 945 about 99W at 1.2v for example, both should be well within tolerance of the board. Not sure if these cpus are capable or such undervolts but you might give it a go? Best option is to get the right board though.
