AMD 965

My 965 hits a wall at 3.8 also n iv tried alsorts even tho my temp has never been over 60 with the H50 cooler it wont have any of it over 3.8, from what iv read it seems this is normal. Hoping the bulldozer's will be am3 if not ill go 6 core when the prices drop.

you done twenty runs on ibt or played bfbc2 with it at that setting. trust me bfbc2 loves trying oc settings :p also if you have to bump up the volts on certain progs then it aint stable is it really.

It passes 50 runs max mem in IBT/Linx at 1.4125v, prime needed 1.425.

Folding@home is the most demanding "consumer" application I've come across as far as stress testing an overclock

they are going to be am3+, which means you'll be able to use a am3 chip in the mother board but you won't be able to use a bulldozer in a am3 setup

Not impressed with that.. means i need a new motherboard or just go 6 core but hopefully the 6core prices will plumet when BD's come out.

I run my 1090T at 3.8Ghz the extra voltage needed for 4-4.2 just isn't worth the gains, this is probably down to my cheap ass £60 matx mobo though :)

3.8 is definately the average peak of this chip, but I'd say that's only true if you are only looking to easily o/c, I.e by changing multiplier and increasing voltage.
I was lucky with this one, with it able to do 3.9 with only a little extra voltage, however I sat down one Saturday and worked out the max CPU, FSB and NB cabality and then looked to reach a happy medium with the limits I would be comfortable with being 1.55v and 55 degrees under load.

I would say you have a better chance getting past 3.8 with a 965, however it might only be 3.9, whilst the 955 could have pushed 4-4.1 if you were lucky.
I got the 965 on this week only, which meant that I I only spent £5 for a garanteed 200MHz better stock speed.

Will my 965's maximum clock of 3.8 be a bottleneck when i upgrade from this 4890, im waiting for the 28nm cards and jus wondering if it will b worth it with this cpu?

I upgraded my 4890 to a GTX570 and saw massive gains, sure things like FSX bottleneck the 965, but it does to everything else!

My 965BE is the 125w one, and Ive clocked it to 4.2 yesterday at 1.45ish volts. Completely stable and temp maxes out at 60 (in a warm room).

Really chuffed with it, best chip I've had.
