AMD A10 6800K, small case, less heat... Underclocking?

Hi all,

New here, this weekend I'm going to tackle the problem of a small backup / general misc server where performance is not key. The ability to keep it cool and silent is the top priority. Secondly, the ambient temperature around the case needs to keep cool.

CPU : AMD APU A10 6800K Black Edition Quad Core Processor

Really not the CPU to be putting in a small case, but it's all I have at hand right now. I'm looking for some Intel T's, but that's a goal for another day.

So to the question at hand. I know before I start that this CPU is going to get very hot, case is small. So, without spending a penny I'd like to lower the temperature and as far as I'm aware, no matter what fan I use, the heat will either stay in the case, or outside of the case (essentially warming the area around the case).

So I figure running it slower would produce less heat.

Anyone ever underclocked this CPU or more generally tips for what to tackle first, any particular strategies to go for and ultimately am I beating a dead donkey trying to get this CPU to output less heat?

Thanks all.
