Heya peeps, over the last couple of days i have noticed my system "lagging" and its affecting all programs I use. The CPU cycles seem to jump suddenly from 2% idle to between 44-100% every few seconds and its driving me crazy. My first thoughts are possibly due to heat from this hot weather mebbe expanding the components etc? What do other people think? I am 99% sure its not a virus as I scan daily. I thought I heard a fan inside the machine "clip" every time there was a spike but I wasnt sure if this was the GFX card fan or the CPU fan. Has anyone else experienced something similar to general PC lag - my system in general is slower to respond and load programs etc. I can't watch movies etc on it now as it stutters and its driving me crazy.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Sounds like you've got a malicious process, possibly spyware, grabbing your CPU cycles

Load up Task Manager, sort by CPU usage and see what process is causing the spikes. If you don't know what it does stick the process name into Google and it'll tell you - it's likely to be spyware

I'd recommend regular anti-spyware scans especially if you're using IE as it's full of holes

It's likely that a large number of your background processes are unneccesary. I'd recommend going through them, possibly using Google, and disabling the unneeded processes using the System Configuration Utility (Start/Run and type "msconfig" (without the quotes))

Hi there

I had the exam same problem as you, with the same processor. It was indeed a piece of software causing it. The software in question was Aston Desktop. I dont know if it was just a bugged installation or something, but upon removing this software everything returned to normal.

Unlikely that you have Aston installed, but if you do, try disabling it and see what happens :)
