Or have they

According to a news article on Sinatech 新浪网, a Chinese daily. It reported that there is news that AMD has acquired ATi and it will be officially announced.

The person who disclosed this news to the media didn't reveal too much details involving the acquistion deal including the price of the deal etc.

If AMD buys ATi, that will definitely remap the ATi's integtated graphics strategy. AMD's partner is NV. NV's might have to re focus on the Intel platform..

Its been rumoured for months, but im calling Shens on this :D

Id thought ATI would be a bigger company the AMD? which out of these four is bigger

Intel
NV
ATI
AMD

Its not AMD or ATI. Not sure about the other two. Probably Intel.

I would say Intel are the largest, followed by NV, then ATi, then AMD

In terms of market cap:

Intel - ~$100bn
AMD - ~$11bn
nVidia - ~$8bn
ATi - ~$4bn

So AMD swallowing ATi would be a pretty big thing to pull off o.o

its a shame that most pc manufacturers will only choose intel products, its basically like the volkswagon/skoda issue both cars are made by the exact same company, but people go for volkswagon because of the name whereas skoda are just as good but seen as cheap, now if only companies had used AMD products in their pc's from the start AMD would have a lot more money to put into research and development to push their chips and technology further

It's not like your average joe would notice the difference anyway though.

I always thought ATI and nVidia where about equal, (as nVidia's mobo division is tiny % of their graphics setup I would have thought)

But yes Intel are obviously wayyyyyyyy out in front of the other three

if amd aquire ati then nvidia will stop producing chipsets for them.
This would be a huge setback for amd.

And its not like intel are going to be best mates with nvidia, they both have a rocky relationship as of now.

But now that intel has pulled out of the chipset business, one of the two are going to have to stand up and be the main partner.

Only time will tell, the next year as of now should be a huge change in the tech world.

They stopped the production of the entry level chipsets, hence Intel boards appearing with ATI chipset. They are still producing chipsets though witness the new 965 coming shortly with the new Core2 Processors.
