I want to buy an AM2 6400 CPU. I don't overclock so would it be worth me staying with this CPU or going over to an intel CPU? Remember now, I don't overclock

I have yet to buy a mobo (mATX) or ram

I don't know enough about them? Is it faster than the AM2? Cooler?

Is this the one:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM

What mATX mobo should i get with it and what ram?

It has two more core's.

Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R Micro ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

And some GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

Would pair well.

depeneds what you want to do mate...

Games... dual core really....

media editing, multi tasking... quad core..

Up and coming games will support Quad core.

Sup Com now already does.

At this price point there is no point getting a dual core.

Still, not sure what to get. I quite like the idea of a quad core but don't know enough about Intel as i have always been an AMD man!

I am not into overclocking but this Intel Q6600 would still be better than the AM2 6400 even at stock?

In multi threaded apps massively.

In future games yes.

Thing is, that mobo you suggested does not have DVI. I do have a PCIe card but i would have liked a DVI onboard just in case. Is there another good board that had DVI onboard or should i just not worry about that and put my 7600 GT PCIe card in?

Do you currently have an AM2 motherboard?

If so get an AM2 CPU, not a Core 2. The Phenom will fit your board - it'll just need a BIOS update.

Clock for clock the Phenom is about the same as the Core 2 Quad
