Hi all, I’m in real need of some assistance. I have not built a new computer in about 5 or 6 years and therefore not as clued up about it all as I once was.

I bought the parts as listed below because my old PC just failed to POST, the first time it turned on and the bios options appeared on the screen but would not respond to any commands inputted on the keyboard, it just froze and the lights where lit up on the keyboard, i restarted it and it did the same, on the 3rd restart it displayed that screen you get when you first turn it on (memory and cpu info).

I cleared the bios and still the same, now on about the 11th restart nothing appears on the screen.

I was wondering what the problem is, do i need to flash the update the bios on the mobo? is the RAM no good?

Any help will greatly relieve my stress levels!

Thankyou.

if rik has the right mobo it might be you need a bios update, PII x6 is listed right at the bottom but needs at least bios 0202.

According to what I linked, the 0202 BIOS was the original BIOS, so it should support it, still good to update to the latest anyway.

Some reason, the problem your describing sounds like a power issue, what PSU do you have?

Its a 780w G7 ATX PSU, it was on special offer from a well known high street electronic retailer for £40 as i did have a 550w OCZ PSU fro my old PC, it had been sitting unused in my old tower for over a year collecting dust, when i plugged it in with this new build it started sparking and emmited a really strong burning smell so a ripped it out and bought that G7 PSU...

Thinking about it, it looked like it could have been a BIOS update it needed because it just hung in the BIOS settings not doing anything, i was relieved when it powered up as i thought the whole OCZ PSU issue might have blown my new parts but now nothing appears on the screen so im not sure what i can do now - im guessing i'd need to borrow a AM3+ CPU to update the BIOS so it accepts my Phenom?

Its this board? It should support your CPU directly. rather than borrow a CPU, I would go for a branded PSU Corsair, Antec of about 550w 80+ as I suspect power issues with your PSU (£40 ****** rubbish) is causing the problem.

Try removing the GTX 560 and using the on board graphics.

try booting with one stick of memory.

Your lucky it still powers up after that, as long as it didnt go kablamo you should be fine.

Id personally find someone with a similar set up (AM3 mobo, CPU and RAM) and swap bits around. Id dare say that you might of killed the mobo. I done the same a few weeks ago and the mobo was dead straight off :(
