I noticed they were £99 mark last night and gone up today too £117 mark the AM2 socket ones, are they set to rise even more, could do with knowing, can anyone from oc's confirm this.

where are you seing these prices? also...the 3800's run at 2.0 Ghz

On OCuk...

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00GHz (Socket AM2)
Price: £181.95 (£213.79 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Nopes was deffo £99 including vat last night, i wouldn't have made a deal to pass on my P4 stuff to me mate last night if it was £117inc, as what i flogging it for coverd the new mobo and the cpu, i wouldn't have made a mistake like that.

They are still £95-99 elsewhere... and I doubt they will go up.

If anything they will drop even more after Conroe.

My mate pretty desperate for this P4 i got, after seeing that a A64 3200 out performs a 3.6 gig P4 on games i was rather shocked  , so going too a 3800 would give me a hell of a boost from this 3.4.

Welcome to the world of AMD. :)

I snapped up one of these yesterday for my new AM2 build, just wanted a small upgrade of my skt 754 stuff. Shame OcUK didn't have the gfx or mobo in stock yesterday.

It certainly is a good value for money cpu at that price imo.

Same the money i flogging the P4/pci-e mobo and agp mobo will pay for the 3800 am2 and mobo, as i said above i already got 2 gig of g.skill ddr2 ram so will be a nice upgrade for me.

No point starting a new thread, i been looking for reviews of these AM2 3800's with little being found. I just want something to give me a boost in gaming to say xmas then upgrade again.

Currently on P4, 3.4 with ddr2 ram this stuff is going this week apart from ram so want a good boost in gaming for now, would this give me it.

Edit:

I noticed on s939 it was around 40fps boost average over the P4, now is am2 any faster or do they pretty much perform the same as 939

In some applications, 1%, in some games, up to 4%.

is it worth it? Yes. Future proofing is worth it imo.
