AMD Bets on DirectX 12 for Not Just GPUs, but Also its CPUs

Very much doubt developers will take the time needed to make their games run well on AMD FX 8 core CPU's.

I mean, why would they? AMD command only 20% of the desktop market share.

They'll make sure the games run well on Intel, as 80% ish of the market runs an Intel.

Never a sunny day is it for AMD Dave?

Regardless of what % people are plucking up for the market share it is good news for any gamers that these changes are making the potential for lower grade hardware to make the most of what they can.

Don't forget the old chestnut - AMD is 2011 tech! :D

More cores the better! Seriously who uses i3's :p

I wonder if more cores will become as valued as clockspeed is today. It's possible a lot may be reaching for workstation gear for more consumer orientated tasks if the software will support it.

Or maybe Intel will remove the smp interconnects and sell the xeon chips as they do today under consumer/prosumer branding. 18 core intels are currently available, go on Kaapstad you know you want 4 of them ;)

lol, thats awesome :)

Single threaded performance won't matter anywhere near as much in even the near future for the majority of applications, given that fact that current consoles are 8 cores as well as the fact that DX12 and Vulkan allow far more multi-threaded flexibility. It's advantageous to almost everyone if things move towards parallel processing. Now that the 360 and PS3 are dying, hopefully it will be a bit better.

Sure, it might not mean a 860k beats an i3, but it will be damned closer than it is now thats for sure.
